John tells Nicole that Daniel was at their Home
The front door groaned on its hinges as Nicole stepped inside. John laid sprawled across the sofa, the blue light of the television flickering across his vacant expression.
"How was Work?" John asked, not glancing away from the screen. Nicole dropped her bag. The nylon thudded against the hardwood.
"The quarterly reports took longer than expected."
"Right. Anyway, your brother stopped by earlier. Daniel."
Nicole froze.
"What did he want?" she asked, her voice tight.
"He's in a bad spot, Nic. No money, no lead on a flat. Just a total mess." John finally turned, a small, self-satisfied smile on his lips. "I told him he could crash here for a few weeks. It's the least we can do for family."
Nicole's fingers curled into fists. "You did what?"
"Relax. We have the spare room. It’s just for a bit."
"You decided this without asking me? In my house?"
"Our house," John corrected, leaning back into the cushions. "Besides, he's your brother. You should be happy he's reached out."
Nicole stared at him, her chest heaving.
"You know there is a reason, me and him, we don't talk?"
"You mentioned something about loaning him Money he never repaid." John tried to remember.
"Yes, John. It was fivethousand Dollar. Never mentioned it again. And if I asked him about it he denied ever asking for money! And you invited him to live with us for free? Without asking me first?" Nicole ended up screaming.
Visibly shaken John answered "Yes I did. It is OUR House afterall. And he is your brother. It's just a few weeks. Maybe it will fix your Relationship. He is coming this Weekend"
"As long as you don't have a Job, you don't get to decide who eats our Food, or Sleeps in OUR House. The Money I make is just enough for us."
Johns jaw dropped. He never heard his Wife talk to him like that.
"I'm sorry John." Nicole lost all the color in her Face. "I shouldn't have said that. I'm sorry. I'm just so on edge because of work Lately"
