Jesse is an asshole (Day 4)

You report to your first real day on the job. You file into the production floor with everyone else, scanning your badge on the time clock/door combo. Every other employee followed suit and went to nearby lockers to get suited up in hard hat, ear and eye protection, and safety vest.

You don't have a locker yet, so stand by the door. A grizzly older man, complete with mustashe approaches you. "What the fuck are you doing? Get your shit on and get to work, time's 'a wastin'!" He's all up in your face. "Get out of my face. I'm supposed to meet Jesse here for my first day on the job." You say. He growls in response, "That's me. And if you value your job you'll show me a little fucking respect. Wait here."

Jesse finishes gearing up and moves over to another person. He says something and you try to listen in. You can't quite make out all he's saying, but you do catch something about "that asshole", followed by a thumb jerked in your direction. He's going to be a thorn in your side. You hope he's not a Whittman.

Jesse walks back over to you. "Follow me. You can't work lookin' like that, let's get you geared up so we can get you on the floor. Faster the better." He starts walking away from you. You look at him, he looks back. "Hurry up! Ain't got all damn day." He jestures. You follow him to what seems like a supply room for employees.

Another guy's sitting behind the counter, looking bored. "Hey, numbnuts! Get your ass in gear and get our new employee here outfitted to get on the line." Jesse shouts at the beleaguered quartermaster. The quartermaster sighs. This is obviously standard treatment from Jesse. He opens the half-door and leads you in. "Come on. Don't mind Jesse, he's kinda an asshole but he means well. He just wants the company to succeed."

"Hey! I heard that, dick for brains! You're lucky you don't work for me or I'd cancel your vacation!" The quartermaster simply shakes his head as he leads you first to the steel toed boots. "What size shoe 'ya wear?" He asks. You tell him and he grabs a pair of boots of your size from the shelf. "Steel toed boots. Try 'em on, make sure they fit. They should be a bit snug but you should still have a little room for breathin'" he says.

You slip off your shoes and the quartermaster notices your regular socks. "Them ain't gonna do. You need boot socks. Here, take this pair but you gonna need to buy some more." You remove your socks, then don the boot socks followed by boots. The quartermaster was right on the button sizing you up with the boots he gave you.

"These are good." You say. "Great. This way." The quartermaster leads you around the back to another isle. He grabs a helmet, safety goggles, ear protection, and safety vest from the shelves, shoving them into your hands. You come back to the front of the supply cage.

"Put 'em on." The quartermaster says. You don your equipment and the quartermaster checks the fit. "Good to go, sign here. The boots and socks'll come out of yer first paycheck. The other stuff we expect you to return, 'less it done broke. Come see me if that happens." You nod and the quartermaster lets you out of the office.

"Bout damn time." Jesse grunts. "Let's go, this work ain't gonna do itself." You follow Jesse back to the locker room. He hands you a padlock and a single key. "Put yer shit in an empty locker. Ain't no assignments, first come first served." You hurriedly shove your shoes and socks into an empty locker, lock it, and slip the key into your pocket. It was going to be a long day.
