Chapter 4

Does Michael go with Jean?

Jean's party lifestyle.

"I guess that could be fun," Michael said. He really had no idea what his sister got up to when she went out, so partying with her might not be as bad as it sounded. Then again, it could also be so much worse than he could ever imagine. It would just be a toss up, then.

Jean beamed. "Awesome!" she said. "Come on, we'll head down to somewhere we can get something to drink and see if we can meet some people there. This is gonna be a lot of fun, Mike, I promise."

Michael wasn't so sure about that, but he decided not to rain on his big sister's parade. She was actually bringing him along to one of her nights out, so he had to be as nice and sociable as possible in gratitude to her.

Jean led Michael out of their family's cabin and into the hallway. The sun was already setting outside the ship, but there were so many lights inside that no one would be able to tell unless they actually went above deck. Now was the time that the ship's many elderly residents were starting to turn in for bedtime, while the younger vacationers were only just starting to emerge from their rooms. The Excelsior transformed every night as a result of that turnover of guests.

"Have you ever gone drinking before?" Jean asked. Since Michael was still in high school, he wasn't technically allowed to drink ****, at least from a legal point of view.

Michael blushed. "Only once or twice," he said. "And it wasn't much. Just stuff the guys stole or got someone to buy for them or whatever."

That seemed to really amuse Jean. She scoffed. "Psh, amateurs," she said. "Although I guess getting booze in high school is a little different for me than it was for you." She didn't bother to explain that statement, and somehow Michael felt like he didn't want to know what his big sister had meant. "Doesn't matter. No one on this ship asks for ID anyway, seeing as drinking age is all over the place when we're out here. I'm gonna make sure you really have a good time tonight."

That was somehow a little ominous, but Michael found himself actually excited. Spending time with Jean was always fun, even at boring family gatherings, and the prospect of actually getting drunk for real instead of pretending to be in some friend's basement off of a single shot was a pretty cool one.

"Hm," Jean muttered to herself. "Where should we go first..."

What does Jean decide?
