Jaune Finds the Remote

No one knew where the magic remote came from. Not even the remote knew, should the device have some kind of self-awareness. One day it appeared in a world for some lucky individual to find it and change their lives forever. Then it will disappear just as quickly as it came. An unending adventure that seemed to never have an ending. But for the people impacted by it? Their lives were never the same again.

The remote found itself in a new world. A world of monsters made of darkness and kids training to fight those creatures. Huntsmen and Huntresses faced off against the forces of Grimm to protect the kingdoms of Human and Faunus. Remnant: a world that had been abandoned and yet life lived on. It was a plane of existence that was young, vibrant, and full of possibilities. Whoever discovered the device would no doubt have the time of their lives with it. Would it be someone who just used it for fun, or someone who wanted to achieve some lofty dream they could never have before.

The remote didn’t judge.

It was, after all, a remote.

A simple tool that only responded to its user’s wishes. Sitting inside a simple box, the remote rested on the ground, waiting for someone to discover it. They would be its new master and whatever was done was purely on them. Some people became saviors, others conquered, while some just liked to have fun with it.

Okay, most people just tended to have fun, but again, the remote did not judge.

“Huh, what’s this?”

A male’s voice discovered the box and the remote was picked up.

“Is this a remote?”

The boy who discovered the item was named Jaune Arc, a student of Beacon Academy. One of the many Huntsmen in training at the school. Though Jaune Arc was far from normal, even if he didn’t look it. Tall, with short blonde hair and blue eyes, he wore a black sweatshirt with a bunny logo on the front, blue jeans, and a pair of tennis shoes. Someone who looked pretty ordinary. Though this boy managed to forge his way into Beacon to become a student with no combat experience. If it wasn’t for his partner training him hard nearly every day, he would have flunked out long ago.

“Why would someone leave this out here?” Jaune wondered, looking at it. “Wow! It looks like one of those high-tech smart ones. It’s got a gajillion buttons. I bet it’s programmable.” He looked around the abandoned courtyard behind Beacon. “No one’s here and they obviously don’t care about it, so why not?” He reached down into the box and lucked up the remote.

Electricity surged through his hand, and he let go of the device as it fell back into the box.

“Oh, what was that!” Jaune nearly dropped the box. He touched the remote again and frowned. “Static or something?”

In the back of his mind, a feeling warned him this wasn’t a normal remote. He needed to be careful with it. Maybe not show his friends and teammates right away.
