Chapter 6 by Koriandr Koriandr

What happened next?

Jason and Caitlin tried to figure out a cure

Once Jason and Caitlin got situated in her hideout, the doctor made a plan. She needed supplies if she was going to reverse the effects of the serum that changed Jason into Louise. Her plan was simple. Intercept a STAR Labs supply van, avoid the cops, and become one step closer to returning to normal.

"You sure about this? I mean, robbing people kinda makes us look bad. Trust me, I would know."

Jason folded her arms. She was dressed in her full Killer Frost II costume. Little did she know she was the spitting image of Louise Lincoln. It wasn't like anyone was going to know she was really Red Hood but it would make convincing Batman a lot harder if she was committing crime. She should have contacted him immediately when she changed but she was too embarrassed. Damian and the others would never let her hear the end of it if she went to them for help. She had a reputation to keep up. If it got out that Red Hood turned into Elsa, none of the thugs would take her seriously even if she returned to normal!

The two women were standing by in an alleyway, patiently waiting for a STAR Labs truck. The plan was simple: intercept the vehicle and collect the equipment Caitlin needed to make Jason a real boy again. It was still up in the air to Jason whether or not Caitlin would remain a snow leopard person, but ultimately it was her choice. If the transformation cured her illness, she couldn't blame her for wanting to stay like that.

"Look, with my record we couldn't exactly go about this legally even if we tried. And I've tried. I've already got quite a few things making me 'look bad' anyway."

Her tone was a bit dry, to say the least; she wasn't exactly thrilled about committing crime but she didn't have much of a choice.

"The two of us shouldn't have any problem getting in. I broke out of that machine three years ago; I can get us in, but I may need an extra set of hands, just in case. Thank you for tagging along."

It was becoming increasingly clear that perhaps Caitlin wasn't exactly the ruthless killer she'd been painted by the media as.

"I guess that's true."

Jason shrugged.

"And you don't gotta thank me. Not like I have anywhere else to be."

The pale woman smirked.

"It should be arriving any minute now. Are you ready?"

Caitlin didn't seem like that bad of a person now that she'd gotten to know her. Had there been a safe and legal way of fixing her powers, she had probably tried it already and didn't get far.

"I'm ready for anything."

After suffering in a stranger's body for a few days, getting into a fight sounded just like what she needed to start feeling more like herself. She clutched her fists tightly, the air around her hands becoming visibly colder. She was sure going to miss the powers, though. Assuming they actually did figure out a way to change her back to normal.

The truck slowly pulled past and parked right outside their hiding place. As if on cue, Caitlin pounced forward with immense feline grace, getting the backdoors open before the driver had a chance to react.

She motioned for Jason to follow after her, hoping they could make a quick, clean getaway with what they needed.

If STAR Labs had previously had compounds that could have done this to them, Caitlin was confident she'd be able to reverse-engineer an antidote...

Breathing heavily, she began searching for the right vial, all the while prepared to defend herself if need be. She was confident her new set of claws could perhaps even give her an additional advantage if it came down to a fight.

Jason sprang into action as soon as Caitlin moved. She slammed the door on the guard's head, tossing his dazed body out into the street. Regardless of what body she was in, she still maintained her brutal nature.

The pale woman reached her hand out and froze the guard's hand to the pavement to keep him from calling backup.

"Sorry, pal! We're commandeering your ride."

Jason closed the back door to the van, moving to the front to check on Caitlin.

"That's all of them. Let's book it before the cops show up."

Running from the police gave her a tinge of nostalgia.

"I haven't ran from the pigs since I was first starting out on my own. I kinda miss the rush!"

Caitlin took her seat behind the driver's seat and slammed on the gas pedal as soon as Jason was strapped in.

She was already making her way back to their new base with what they'd obtained, hoping they could evade attention...

"I...don't exactly enjoy being on the wrong side of the law, but I won't deny that the adrenaline rush can be fun."

She flashed a fanged smile as the two sped off back towards the base.

"Hopefully we can make things right....Sorry for getting you into this mess in the first place."

She was blissfully unaware that the two had already attracted unwanted attention, but not from the police.

THUD!

Something landed on the roof of the van.

"What the hell was that?!"

Jason realized less than half a second later what was happening.

"It's Batman!"

She tensed up, hoping this would be a smooth getaway. She hadn't been on the wrong side of the law in a long time. Or at odds with Batman for that matter. She knew all his tricks but she lacked the gear and the physical prowess to counter them effectively. What she did have though... was ice powers.

She clutched her fist, the air around it becoming visibly colder.

Shit.

Caitlin pulled the vehicle to a screeching halt in the hopes that they could at least throw him off through sheer **** alone, though she somehow doubted that would work. She definitely needed to take part in the backup plan that Jason was clearly suggesting.

Flexing her claws (which she still wasn't used to), a similar misty cold fog began to emanate from them. She hoped it wouldn't have to come to a fight, but at this rate that was looking incredibly unlikely.

"I swear this isn't what it looks like!"

Right.

She realized as soon as she'd said it that this would likely just sound more suspicious.

Batarangs slid into the tires, air rushing out of them as Caitlin screeched the van to a halt.

“Then what does it look like?”

A brisk, stern, unfeeling voice responded. One Jason knew all too well. A dark figure descended from the shadows, his cape flaring out before closing in on his body. The Dark Knight stood before the vehicle, a frown on his face as his white eyes narrowed at the two criminals.

“Louise Lincoln and… Caitlin Snow..?”

There was subtle disbelief in his tone. The snow leopard before him wore a similar costume to the third Killer Frost. The second one sitting next to her was evidence enough. Had Lincoln broken out of Black Gate?

“Step out of the van and I won’t hurt you.”

Jason tensed up, looking between Batman and Caitlin.

Caitlin gave Jason a concerned look and slowly opened the door, cautiously raising her paws in the air.

"One of us is going to have to try and explain this," she muttered, looking her in the eye as she took her first step out of the van.

"I promise there's an explanation for this," she said, though at this point she was beginning to doubt that there was any way she could make it make sense to him.

"This doesn't have to come to a fight."

All the while, she was still prepared to defend herself if need be, and if it did turn violent- which she was increasingly afraid it would... she had some sort of plan formulating in her mind. She motioned for Jason to follow after her; if the situation did come to a fight, she already knew she'd need the backup.

"But first off, you're probably wondering why I don't look like my wanted poster."

Jason slowly stepped out of the car, readying herself to back up Caitlin if this got ugly.

"Talk, Snow. Now."

Batman's arms were hidden by his cape. A trick he used to prepare his gadgets for use out of sight. He already had a plan in mind for taking both of them down. Whatever Caitlin was planning to say, Jason hoped it would be enough to convince him to not strike.

"What happened to you..?"

The Dark Knight's voice remained stern, though Jason heard a hint of concern in his tone for Caitlin.

She took a deep breath and slowly lowered her paws.

"I broke into STAR Labs a few days ago to try and find a cure for my sickness. I was confronted by another vigilante, and we got into a fight. But something went wrong with the serum that should have cured me, and I noticed it when the vial that was holding it was damaged. We both got doused with the serum, and as a result we both ended up suffering some side effects."

"I ended up changing into...well, this. But the guy who went after me arguably had it worse. As a matter of fact, that vigilante is standing behind me right now. She didn't ask for any of this, and I need to help her find a way to get back to normal if I can. Especially because I'm the one that got us into this mess."

"A male vigilante?"

Batman narrowed his gaze to Jason. He hadn't received word from Red Hood in a few days. He'd grown to trust Jason to not be on such a tight leash but him not reporting in after investigating the STAR Labs break-in was bizarre. He hadn't been answering his phone either.

Did Batman believe their story?
