Jason sighed softly as he returned to his desk from his first 15 minute break. He knew he needed to hurry or have Mrs. Williams on his ass again for being late. He could hear the news playing three cubicles over but shook his head as he sat down just before his time was up. "Mr. McCoy, my office! Now!" Latoya Williams called before he could even think to reach for his keyboard. He sighed and rose from his seat wondering what he'd done wrong this time. He walked swiftly to her office knowing dragging this out wouldn't be a wise thing right now. He knocked as he walked inside the open office. She waved him to a seat before closing the door behind her.

"Mr. McCoy, do you have any idea why I called you in here today?" She started wondering if she was making the right choice. "No ma'am, I've been trying harder to keep myself on time. I haven't been late for work in over a month and I've been returning well before my breaks end!" He spoke up hoping she'd noticed. "Look, May I call you Jason for this conversation?" she sighed as she decided this was the right choice. "Yes Ma'am." he swallowed thinking this was very out of character for his normally uptight manager. "Have you been following the recent news Jason?" She couldn't help thinking he probably hadn't since he was acting like normal.

"No ma'am, I don't typically watch the news because of all of the negativity." He bit his tongue to keep from finishing that thought. "Less than 6 Hours ago, Congress passed a new law that the President quickly signed. Basically, anyone who isn't white no longer has any rights in this country and minorities can be claimed by any white person. In short, it's only a matter of time before everyone who isn't a White Christian person will be a **** to those who are. I've called you in here for one reason, I want to ask you to claim my daughters and myself. You're a decent and good man but there are a lot of men out there that aren't." She bit her lip but wondered what he'd say. He was shocked at the news but couldn't help noticing the pictures of her daughters on her desk.
