What does Jane do?
Jane tosses the coin
You watch as Jane throws the coin in the air and allows it to fall on the table.
It’s heads.
“So how did that feel?” asks Carrie.
“It’s just as you said. As soon as I’d made the choice to toss the coin the decision was out of my hands,” says Jane.
And you didn’t need much persuasion to toss the coin in the first place, you think. Perhaps Carrie is right - we are all just thinking about and looking for sex all of the time but conditioned to say or do nothing about it.
“So what now?” Jane asks.
“When do you get off shift?” Carrie responds.
“About two thirty, when we finish up lunch service.”
Carrie writes down our address on a napkin and hands it to Jane.
“Come to our place when you’re done. We’ll be expecting you.”
Jane smiles and tucks the napkin into her pocket then walks off to go back to work.
You haven’t said a word during the entire exchange, but you could properly recite it from memory given how focused on it you had been.
“You better leave a good tip or she might not turn up,” says Carrie tapping your leg with her foot under the table. “Come on, let’s go back and make sure the apartment’s neat and tidy.”
You leave some cash on the table and leave the restaurant.
