Jake returns with drinks

Jake returned from the bar with a couple of drinks. As he approached, he saw a man leaving the area near Abbie, and his eyes followed the man's exit from the pool deck.

"I got you a piña colada." Jake held one out to Abbie. "No idea if you like those."

"I do!" Abbie sat up and wiped some excess lotion on her legs before taking the cup from Jake. "Mmm, it's good, too. Thank you!"

"Got myself one as well, and I think maybe I've never had one before." He drank a bit, and put it on the table next to the chairs. "You might get two drinks out of this. I don't think the coconut thing is for me."

Abbie laughed. "Maybe it's an acquired taste."

"The sun is pretty fierce today," Jake said. "I'm sure you don't need me to tell you to be careful with that perfect skin of yours."

Abbie smiled. "Fortunately, I planned ahead and brought sunscreen. I'm all protected."

Jake sighed and looked back toward where the other man had left. "Friend of yours help you out?"

Abbie gave Jake a look that was something between being embarrassed for being caught and critical of Jake for feeling he needed to catch her.

"He was very kind. And helpful."

Jake smirked. "He just wanted to get his hands on you."

"Can you blame him?"

"No!" Jake took another sip. "I want my hands on you every minute I see you."

"What's stopping you?" said Abbie flirtatiously.

Jake looked back toward the exit once more, then to Abbie. "I don't want to feel things I shouldn't feel, but ..." He trailed off.

"But what, Jake?" said Abbie, also sipping her piña colada. "You know me. He asked if I needed help."

"And you said yes."

"And I said yes."

Jake was silent for a minute, so Abbie continued talking.

"It was true, Jake. I did need help. My back?"

Jake sighed. "I know, I know."

"Are you jealous?"

Jake nodded, but didn't speak.

"Don't be." Abbie put her drink down and reached a hand across to touch Jake's arm.

"Ooh, your fingers are cold!" Jake exclaimed.

Abbie giggled. "It's from the cup. Frozen drink. Sorry."

Jake smiled at her. "No, it's fine."

"But listen. You can only be jealous if someone else is getting something you can't have."

Jake nodded. "You're right. How can I be jealous of some random dude putting sunscreen on you when I can do the same thing?"

"You can't!"

Jake sighed. "This is going to take some getting used to, I think. You're a different kind of woman, Abbie."

Abbie took another sip of her piña colada. "And that's what makes me so wonderful!" She put the cup down, and turned to Jake. "Now put your drink away -- or finish it -- and let's go swimming."
