Jack sneaks to Miranda’s office

Jack sighed as she made her way back up after giving it a few minutes. Shepard was away on missions and left them to do whatever. Jack decided this would be the best opportunity to put things to rest.

Miranda looked up as soon as Jack entered her office. “Jack… I hope you’re not here to throw more furniture,” Miranda said. “And if you are, I’d ask you to choose a throw pillow instead.”

Miranda gestured behind her to some throw pillows she had pulled out. Jack sighed. “I’m sorry I threw a chair at you. I was out of line.”

“Oh… so we can admit our faults,” Miranda teased. “Come here.”

Miranda stood from her chair and Jack followed as they slipped into Miranda’s sleeping area where they sat on a bench next to each other. “You really didn’t know the facility existed?” Jack asked.

Miranda shook her head. “I knew there were labs and facilities and I knew they took in troubled kids. But I didn’t know that those kids were being treated as test subjects.”

Jack sighed. “So your father… he really… built you in his lab? And kidnapped your sister?”

“It’s a bit more complicated than that, but yes,” Miranda said. “He basically wanted to use my sister against me.”

“I noticed the discarded letter to your sister,” Jack muttered. “It was in the files that I uh… borrowed.”

“I’ve known about my sister for a while. And there were so many times I wanted to tell her about me,” Miranda said. “But if I did that, she would surely be hunted down by Henry.”

“That sucks,” Jack said. “I never knew my parents. But I guess I’d rather never know them than fear them every waking minute.”

“I really am sorry about what happened,” Miranda said as she rested her hand on Jack’s shoulder. “I guess… I guess neither of us have perfect lives.”

“I guess not,” Jack said, then she stood up. “I should probably return to my bunker.”

“Or you could stay here,” Miranda said.

“Look we might have similar pasts but that doesn’t mean we’re going to braid hair and fuck, cheerleader,” Jack said.

“That’s a darn shame,” Miranda said.

Jack rolled her eyes and then walked out.
