It isn't easy but...

"How the hell does a phone app communicate with DNA in genes anyway?" Tiffany demanded when they were sitting in her office reviewing the interview and the heist.

"It doesn't," Rick admitted. "But with your first pill, you swallow a receiver that attaches to the lining of your stomach and that can reprogram the bio-DNA genes it comes in contact with. From the stomach lining, the reprogramming gets into the bloodstream and from there into all of your body's cells."

"So, I can see why it costs a million dollars."

"Yeah, it was expensive to develop." It was also mostly a vanity thing. The alpha product lacked the app but supplied all of the health benefits. So, a couple of years of development and delay had been about letting some pervert adjust young women to look like young girls.

"Anyway, you can reprogram Nicki now, right?"

"Uh, depends on what you mean by 'now.'"

"You can't fix me?" Nicki's outburst was as loud as it was predictable.

"I didn't say that. We need to get a new phone, recopy the memory map onto the phone, and then do some configuring. Once that's taken care of, we can get you started. But getting you back to normal will still take a few days. We have to take it slow. After all--"

"No. You have to take it fast. My father didn't mess around in messing me up, you're not going to mess around in fixing me."

Tiffany sighed and reached into her handbag. "Okay. Chuck, first check the recovered property room and if you can't find a relatively recent iPhone there, use my credit card to buy one. And Nicki, you need to stop whining. You're getting annoying and annoying women don't get laid, you got that."

Detective Grunson cleared his throat. "Actually, annoying women can get laid fine."

"And you can shut up too, Grunson. Now I figure we have about two hours before the shit hits the fan. So, what are we going to do about Hughes?"

"Clearly he knows more about his wife's murder than he's telling," Grunson said. "And equally clearly it has something to do with the security company. I'll work the security company angle but I have no idea how to go after Hughes. He'll have lawyered up and he'll be playing those political cards."

"Forget about Olivia for a minute," Rick suggested. "It's got to be a crime to alter another adult's body without their permission. I suggest you bring Misty Storm and question her. If I'm right and Dan has reprogrammed her body, we have a pattern."

"Practicing medicine without a license is not something our department normally concerns itself with," Tiffany said. "Still, I can argue a link to the possible murder. Fine, I'll send out a uniform to pick Ms. Storm up for questioning. I suggest that you get together with Chuck and see what you can do for Nicki before she drives all of us crazy."

"I worked with Misty for several months," Rick said. "You may want me in on the questioning."

"I'll call you if I need you. Now get to work on fixing Nicki. But be sure to get video footage first. We don't want Hughes's lawyers saying that nothing ever happened."

Chuck broke back into the office with an iPhone clutched victoriously in his hand. "Found one in the recovered property like you said."

"Take Rick and Nicki here and work whatever magic is needed. Grunson and I have got to get some real work done."

Dismissed, Rick, Nicki and Chuck left Tiffany's office and headed down to the computer lab where Chuck introduced them to the department's resident computer geek.

Who turned out to be something of a surprise.
