Chapter 4 by FlightoftheBeers FlightoftheBeers

Do the girls stay put?

It doesn't really matter

You entered the room, gun at the ready. Based on the stories you'd briefly heard from Mimi, this guy was rough. That, and he brought back up.

"She doesn't want to talk with you," you replied from the other side of the door.

"Who're you?" The man shouted.

"A guy with a gun. And you?" You shouted back.

There was a long silence before he spoke up again, "no bitch is worth dying for." He replied, seeming a bit deflated. His bravado hadn't really scared you; you'd seen it before in plenty of your own clients as well as opponents.

"Smart move, bud. Don't come back here again." You said, waiting until you heard the car peel out of your driveway. You turned back to the other two and saw Mimi desperately holding onto Tegan.

"What if they come back?" Mimi asked with a quiver in her voice.

"Doesn't matter. We've got their faces and plates. I'm not an idiot; you can make enemies as a lawyer, so having cameras and a security system are a must. I'll send everything over to the cops tomorrow and see what we can do. You don't need to worry. As long as you're here, you're safe." You gave her your best reassuring smile, doing your best to calm your own heart rate. You were surprised you'd come off like that much of a badass, but you chalked a lot of it up to adrenaline.

Either way, Mimi launched over to you and hugged you, crying. You set your gun down to the side and hugged her back. "It's gonna be okay, Mimi. I promise."

As much as you'd been wanting Mimi to stay safe at the house, she was too scared to stay on her own since Tegan was out of the house at work. So, she came to work with you.

You delicately explained the situation to Aubrey with as little detail as possible and she was fine with letting Mimi hang out around the office during the day. Most of the time, Dillon talked her ear off.

Dillon was glad to have someone to gossip with, even though Mimi didn't really know anyone nor care. Still, it kept her busy during the day.

Lunch, then, usually consisted of you, Dillon, Aubrey, and Mimi. Dillon, as usual, dominated the conversation, but it was a nice distraction from everything. Mimi would give you a soft, thankful smile as she ate her lunch and tried to listen to Dillon.

One day, Aubrey decided to change the topic. "Mimi," Aubrey interrupted Dillon. "How would you like a part-time job here? It would just be secretarial work and paperwork, but it might help you get back on your feet."

Mimi looked at you, but you shrugged. This was news for you, too.

Does Mimi decide to work with you?
