It’s All Important
“Is this a joke?”
The line was silent for a few seconds, then a very quiet response came back.
“No.”
“Look, I don’t really have time for this,” he said, “I’m on the other line, and so if you can just get to the punch line…”
“I woke up after a battle with Black Adam,” the voice on the other end said, more forcefully and with an earnestness in her tone, “and I saw your message on my arm. And I saw your name. Thank-you.”
Jack paused. Could it be true? Could it actually be her?
“Shit,” Jack swore under his breath. If this was actually Wonder Woman, he had certainly blown giving a good first impression. Of course she would call! He had written his number on her arm! She needed to know what Black Adam had said!
“Okay, let’s say that I believe you. When you were ****, Black Adam said something about the world having to suffer because you stopped him, and that he was going back to Khandaq. I wasn’t sure if that was important, what would be helpful for you, so I wrote on your arm to get your attention.”
“It’s all important,” she answered, “the message, your number, your name. Until I saw it, I had not realized who you were, who I was.”
Jack had no idea what she was on about. Maybe the blow to her head had thrown her for a loop.
“I think we should talk in person. This kind of thing shouldn’t be done over the phone,” she said seriously.
“In person?” Jack swallowed hard. Did one of the most powerful people on the planet want to meet with him?
“I’m outside your door. If you want, I can come in.”
There were three knocks on his front door. Jack dropped the phone.
