It's too risky

As much as it piqued her curiosity, Valerie decided her mission was simply too important. "I'm sorry, Hawk.", she replied, as she continued walking towards the entrance to the auction hall. "I appreciate the offer, but you're simply too...unpredictable for me to consider your help."

"Oh, come on!", he replied playfully, continuing to walk with her. "Don't tell me you're still upset because of what happened in Paris."

Valerie felt herself becoming angry despite her best efforts. "You stole all my gear in Paris. I was naked for the entire mission, because of you.", she fumed.

"Wait, you were naked for all that time?", exclaimed Iris in her ear.
"How was I supposed to know you would show up to the site in just a towel?", exclaimed Hawk.

"Whatever - I do not need this right now.", she fumed, losing her rehearsed cool for a brief moment. She motioned to leave and enter the auction hall.

"Come on.", said Hawk. "Look, I'm sorry for what I did in Paris, all right? At least hear me out."
