What's next?
Is this real life, Is this just fantasy
Only about ten seconds after Jessica sprayed the perfume onto Samantha's neck, she noticed a sudden jolt in Samantha's brain waves. All of her brain waves including the one Jessica was trying to target. The ripples radiated outward, crashing against the shores of her oppressors interference pattern. For a brief moment, Samantha's brain waves danced independently, as if reclaiming the stage that was rightfully hers.
James, for his part, felt a strange sensation within Sam's body, a trembling that echoed the tumultuous fluctuations of her brain waves. It was a whisper of defiance, a fleeting glimpse of Samantha's spirit struggling to break free from beneath the weight of his influence.
"Doc, I think something's happening. Ow, Doc," James moaned as a sharp pain shot through his body. His voice sounded strained, his pleas reaching out for help. He started shaking uncontrollably, his muscles stiffening and flexing involuntarily. It was as if his inner world was experiencing a violent earthquake, shaking the foundations of his existence.
"Stay strong, James! I know it hurts, but hang in there. We're close," Jessica assured him, her voice filled with concern. She kept her gaze fixed on the oscilloscope, watching as Samantha's brain waves danced madly, like a pack of wild horses running amok.
Then suddenly, Samantha's body went limp no longer moving and no longer conscious. Neither mind in Sam's body awake at that moment sending a shiver down Jessica's spine. Just as she was about to panic she looked at the monitor. Two distinct lines both representing brain waves pulsed strongly on the screen. One belonged to Samantha; one belonging to James. Both minds showing up like they were fully awake. Yet, neither seemed capable of regaining control over Sam's body. Her body remaining still on the table.
As Jessica stared down in a mixture of awe and panic, the scent of Sam's perfume wafted upwards, into her nostrils. Reaching somewhere deep in Samantha's subonscious.
James, for his part, suddenly found himself waking up in a park. It was fall. The leaves were falling and somehow he knew that this time, this memory, was from a very long time ago. The sky had turned orange, yellow, and red, creating swirling patterns of color that painted the heavens. And as he looked out beyond the trees, he saw Sam sitting on a bench down close to the water. In her hand, she held a small bottle of perfume.
She looked up at him, her eyes reflecting the warm hues of the sunset. Her smile was serene but a look of confusion lingered in her gaze. "James, what are you doing here?" she asked, her voice questioning. "Wait, I remember this place. This was where I had my first date. That day in the park...he gave me this perfume..." Sam paused, looking down at the bottle in her hand.
"Sam, I have no idea what's going on." James replied, "One minute, I was in the lab with Dr. Yuri, and now I'm here, in this park with you."
"Jessica? The lab?" Sam asked, her brows furrowing in confusion. "What are you talking about? We've been here all morning, Mike."
"Sam, what are you talking about...?" James started. He paused, looking around. The park seemed to be fading. The colors were becoming muted, the sounds muffled. The scent of the perfume was beginning to fade. "Sam, are you okay?"
Sam looked at him, her eyes beautiful but becoming greyer. "I'm fine, Mike. Come sit with me. Look how beautiful the water is." Sam gestured towards the river that ran along the edge of the park. "Do you remember when we first met?"
"Sam, it's me James. I don't know who Mike is." James replied, his voice trembling slightly. "I'm James, your friend from the lab. Do you remember?"
Sam looked at him, her expression unchanging. "Do I know you? It sure is lovely out isn't it?"
James looked around. Everything now in greyscale. The world seemed to be fading away. He tried speaking to again but his words were muffled, unintelligible. Then suddenly, faster than he could blink, Sam was gone. Not a moment later, everything faded to black.
