Chapter 105 by Rhubarb

What's next?

Investigate Chad's Social Media

Sunday evening, and you’re unwinding down from an eventful weekend. Your body wants to rest, but your mind is still active. It keeps bringing up random thoughts.

Like Spencer. Spencer is married to Chad Mano, your high school bully. Why? Ok, you gather he’s handsome, at least classically. Even you, a heterosexual male, who only understands male handsomeness from an intellectual level, can see he’s handsome. But he’s a jerk. He was a jerk at school. And from the brief encounter you’ve had with him, he’s an even bigger jerk now.

You pull out your laptop and decide to investigate.

He’s big into rugby. You remember Spencer mentioning that. You know the town has a rugby club. You know in certain parts of the town they’re very proud of their rugby club. So you go searching for that.

Yes, it has a website, listing its teams, listing its fixtures, listing its social calendar. You pull out the photos of the teams. He’s not in the ‘A’ team. No. But you spot him in the picture for the ‘B’ team. A prop. The list of the ‘B’ team’s results appear indifferent. The team plays in the lower echelons of the local leagues, against other local teams. The ‘A’ team plays at a higher level, but not that much higher; a league that covers just slightly more than the county.

You delve deeper. The team has a large footprint in social media. Posts on twitter. A community on Facebook. Just the usual things; announcements, results. Oh, look the ‘B’ team has its own Facebook group, and its open.

Now this is interesting. This group is less interested in the rugby results and more interested in YouTube videos. Posted videos, with comments telling the users to “check this out” and “this is a good one.” Oh look, a couple of these videos have complementary comments by Chad.

The videos in question concern the manosphere. All talk about alpha males and what they need to do. How to control their woman. How to get a woman. How to be the boss. Most of it appears nonsense to you. Your woman should be kept on a tight leash; speak only when she’s spoken to, ready to satisfy her man not just physically but also mentally and emotionally. To be a boss you must make certain everyone knows that you’re in command, again more about control than understanding.

Sounds like nonsense to you. The male presenters are all ultra-buff and ultra-pushy. They talk in short words and short sentences, which you guess they think makes them sound in charge, but to you gives the impression of low intelligence. When it comes to complicated ideas their treatment is simplistic at best.

Is this what Spencer must put up with? Surely she’s clever enough to see through all this nonsense. Why would she marry a guy who’s in to it?

You shake your head, turn off the laptop and go to bed.
