Supernatural Secret

Chapter 1 by Yellowjack42 Yellowjack42

Twenty one years...

Twenty one years since you began this journey known as life.

At least that was what the blaring buzz from your desk top alarm told you. Glancing at the offending piece of technology you grumble in annoyance, with all of these advances in human technology and people can't even figure out how to make a damned alarm sound more pleasant. With a quick lash of your hand you shut off the offending equipment, muttering in annoyance as you slowly sit up in your bed. Twenty one years old, attending college, looking for a teaching degree and you are still not a morning person.

You try to slough off any residual sleep as you go through your morning routine, piss, jack off, shower, brush teeth, etc. As you put on your clothes for the day you catch yourself in your mirror, moderately handsome some would call you, others would call you another face in the crowd that needed a shave. In any case you didn't give two shits; any relationship you had ever had was a powder keg waiting to happen so you gave up on romance a LONG time ago. It didn't help that when any of your previous girlfriends learned how certain things about you, they left you immediately. "Bah," you mutter to yourself as you pick up your backpack for a fun filled day of classes, "no skin off my nose." With a sharp click of your door you leave you single dorm, lock it, and head out.

Along the way you notice the weather, a nice crisp autumn morning so close to Halloween you can practically taste the sugary candy and witch craft on the breeze. It was almost too nice, the chill in the air, the musk of burning leaves, the scent of fresh baked pies...it lulled you into a dull hypnosis.

"Hey runt!"

You wince, almost feeling the hit before it connects and bracing yourself for it simultaneously. You feel the powerful slap on your back, a cough jumping from your throat as the shockwave travels from your spine to your chest. You groan in pain and turn your head to face the offender, their own expression lit up in amusement as they speak, "What's the word, hummingbird?"

You sigh, rubbing your back as you respond, "Nothing outside of the usual Lera." Lera had been your best friend for many years, her bright smile as infectious as the flu and her loyal attitude being more solid than diamond. Her fiery crimson hair spoke of her personal intensity while her luminescent emerald eyes shone with inhuman brilliance. There were times that you could swear they glowed in the dark. Her lithe body was kept purely by genetics, her curvaceous hourglass form and perky high C cup chest jutting out no matter what outfit she decided to wear. Glancing down you notice she'd dressed in her usual garb of jeans, bomber jacket, burnt orange t-shirt, and a grin a mile wide. "I see you decided to break out old fuzzy collar," you jab, her tongue instantly coming out, "Bite me Jack!"

With her hands on her lips and her emerald eyes shining brightly you can't help be reminded how attractive she is. You've always had a crush on Lera, your friendship of a few weeks quickly blossoming into an intense romantic interest for the spirited redhead. Because of this and her deep friendly attachment to you Lera was often the main cause for your romance troubles, you always choosing her over potential significant others because of your devoted heart. However, despite your feelings you never acted on them out of fear. Instead of risking Lera's friendship you decided long ago to remain in her friend zone, longing for her from afar in a Shakespearean form of desire. This arrangement didn't help your emotions though; she is beautiful, spunky, and has a sense of humor and intelligence that you find utterly magnetic. Shaking free of your thoughts a bit you feel that you need to come up with some smart ass reply lest she question your stare. "Rather not, dunno what diseases I'll get from you." This time Lera lashes out, not so lightly punching you in the arm with an annoyed call, "Jackass, at least I don't dress like I crawled out of the fucking laundry hamper!" You shrug with a smirk still firmly in place, "At least I don't look like I'm wearing half a fox around the back of my neck."

For a flash of time you see Lera stiffen slightly, her body tensing for a brief moment before she gives you another slap on the back, "Real funny. So care to walk me to class?" You chuckle, "No problem Lera, we've only been going to the same class all semester." Lera feigns innocence as she puts a finger to her lips, "Oh really? I never noticed, you just vanish into the background Jack O' Lantern." You grab the top of Lera's skull, your taller stature allowing you to hold her silken fire scalp in a firm but gentle grip, "Better than being caught by my grandmother while I was streaking across campus on a bet." Lera's eyes jump open and she glares at you, her cheeks a burning violent red, "I was drunk and you were the one who bet me you asshole!" You smirk, "Prove it." In seconds you're off in a chase, Lera shouting innumerable curses at you while you run like a madman.

In time the both of you arrive at your destination, each setting up for the day’s classes and trying to calm down from your sudden sprint. Just as you are about to enter Lera stops you, a single arm blocking your path. You look down to Lera in confusion who, for the first time since you met her in high school, isn't meeting your gaze. Instead she appears to be staring off to the side, her body pulled in close to herself as she spoke, "Hey Jack, I got something for you." You raise an eyebrow but nod, "What is it Lera?" You wait a full three minutes before Lera digs something out of her pocket, a small crumpled piece of paper held tightly in her fist. She seems to stare at it momentarily before she thrusts it into your chest, "Here! Talk to yah later Jack!" With that Lera vanishes into the room leaving you alone with a crumbled paper balled in your own fist, confusion pulsing through your body, "What the hell?"

You look down at the paper and carefully unwrap it, Lera's unmistakable chicken scratch handwriting covering the page. With a bit of time and deciphering you understand that Lera wants to talk to you in the old Bio Chem. lab, at four, alone. A bit confused you shove the paper into your pocket and enter the room, sitting down in your usual seat which today seems abnormally far from Lera. As class goes on you are able to concentrate for the most part, waiting for the end of class to talk to Lera about the note. However, instead of getting your chance Lera approaches the professor halfway through the class, whispering into their ear and gaining a nod in response. You watch as Lera gathers up her things and leaves the room, giving you one fleeting glance before she skirts out and into the empty hallway. From that moment onward you don't see Lera at all, not on campus or anywhere for that matter. Even the cafeteria, one of her favorite places, is devoid of her bottomless stomach...you start to feeling worried. Lera has never missed a meal, something is definitely wrong.

As the day wears on you become more and more worried, finally having your fears peak at 3:50 in the afternoon. The moment you are let out of your class you race for the science building, on a direct course for the Bio Chem. lab and hopefully some definitive answers. In record time you cross campus and make it to the Lab, looking in through the window and finding not a single light on. While confused, you try the handle of the door and find that it is indeed unlocked. With a gentle push you open the door and slip inside, closing the door behind you and hearing an odd click from the lock. Out of curiosity you grab handle of the door, trying to twist it open once more. As you test the door you find that this time, it is locked...

"Hey..."

A quiet voice causes you to jump from your thoughts, making you spin around and face the source rather than ponder how the door had locked itself. The first thing you notice as you turn around are threads of crimson, the fine red lines set alight by the faint glow of the sun streaming in through the window. While most of the crimson waves disappear behind the shadows of the dimly lit classroom a few tufts are easily recognizable. The next feature you notice is the faint glow of emerald, a pale shine from two identical orbs that are just below the wave of ruby hair. There is only one person you know with that bright combination, "Lera?"

Lera nods her head and takes a tentative step into the light, her usual cocky smile is gone and in its place is a more reserved, almost nervous grin. Half of Lera's form is drowned in darkness, shadows hiding the majority of her body from your inquisitive sight. However, the low light itself only accentuates Lera's soft, pale skin and her already illuminating beauty. Her stance is poised but also withdrawn, the same protective position she had when she gave you the note earlier in the day. As it is you can't help your racing heart or your rushing hormones, every fiber of your being wanting to go to her but holding back with an iron will. "Hey Jack," Lera speaks, her voice on the verge of trembling. Instantly you ware on alert mode, as if you hadn't been earlier, "Lera, is something wrong?" You take a step towards her but Lera stops you with her gaze, those emerald eyes making your freeze in place as she responds, "no...I'm glad you decided to come."

Your voice is locked in your throat, is if some pressure is keeping you from uttering a single word. You can breathe without trouble but it's your voice, your actions that are completely frozen. "I wanted you to come here because...well," Lera says with hesitancy, her hands clutched behind her back and exposing her magnificent breasts that swelled beneath her thin orange t-shirt and open jacket. "I...wanted to wish you a happy birthday...and," Lera says, taking a few more steps into the light, "I...I wanted to show you something...something important." A bit confused, you watch as more of Lera is exposed to the light, the sun revealing a few very interesting and surprising features...
