Happy Accident

My name is John Smith. I'm pretty sure I have the single most boring life in history. There is nothing special about me or my life. I am average height, average looks, blonde hair, blue eyes, average grades, and 20 years old with two sisters. I'm currently walking home from another boring day of college, to continue my boring life with my boring family in my boring home. Everyday I just continue through my boring life waiting for something to happen, anything. Everyday I watch TV shows and anime, and can't help but wish that some magical thing would happen to me or that someone would drop into my life and tell me that I'm special. No such luck. I really just need to give up on that hope and get ho-BOOOM.

I honestly can't believe what just happened. When I said I wanted something interesting to happen in my life, THIS IS NOT WHAT I MEANT. I was just walking home from school like any other day, when some moron in a viper was texting and driving, didn't see the red light, and hit me as I was walking across the crosswalk. Next thing I know, I'm on the ground in the middle of the road. People around me are calling the cops, one guy is pumping my chest in an attempt to give me CPR (thank goodness he didn't do the mouth part), and seconds later everything goes dark.

When the light comes back to my eyes, my first thought was "wow, heaven is even more boring than my actual life." Looking around, all I see is white. Above, below, behind, and in front of me, nothing but white. Then, in an instant, there's a man in front of me. He was fairly plain looking. He looked to be in his mid-thirties with some grey specs in his black hair. He is about 6 foot, and well built. He is wearing a black suit with a white tie and is looking at me with a very exasperated expression.

"So...I fucked up." The man said. "Before you start freaking out asking who I am, where you are, and what the hell just happened, let me explain. I am God -- and despite what everyone on Earth believes, I make mistakes, granted I haven't made one in over 2,000 years... MARY! Reset the 'days without incidents' count. Anyways, you weren't supposed to die today. I was trying to end the life of **** mule with a very similar name to yours halfway across the world."

"Okay...this is a lot to take in..." I said, very confusedly. "So what now, I'm just dead? And can you really expect me to believe that you're God? I'm not even religious."

"Everyone says the same damn things when they get here. I'm not going to stand here for 20 mins to prove to you that I am who I say I am. However, you won't be doubting me much longer."

"Oh really? And why is that?" I said with extensive doubt in my voice.

"Well, like I said, you weren't supposed to die today. And, while I'm not the oh-so-kind God that many people make me out to be, I do like to follow a strict schedule and I am religious (pun intended) about repaying my debts. So, I'm going to make you an offer."

Now that piqued my interest. If this guy really was God, what exactly was he going to offer me? "What kind of offer?"

"I will send you back down to Earth. And to apologize for you having to get to this place before your assigned date, I will throw in an extra perk. You can have any single ability you want, besides immortality or any ability that would directly result in the **** of another person. By extension, any ability that you want cannot be used to kill or harm someone else. Other than that, you can have any ability and do anything you want with it. After you die, you'll be guaranteed a free ticket into heaven regardless of what you do on Earth from this point on. Or, you can just continue into heaven right now."

I thought about this. The idea of going straight into heaven sounds nice, I mean, how many people are ever going to get that opportunity? But at the same time...this is pretty much what I've always wanted. Something to change my life. Something to make my boring life not so boring... and it helps that I already have a power in mind that I've always fantasized about...

"I'd like to go back down to Earth, and the ability I want is..."
