Seagulls are making the usual noise, polluting your ears as you waited in your throne room. Harir, your Matrimonial Adviser-such a title became frequent as harems became popular- had set an appointment with Duke Farhel Mortron of Bradan. You were not appointed to marry him of course, rather it was his daughter, lady Shasa. You heard very little of the Mortron family, in fact their family is rather young amongst the nobility that come to you. Apparently Duke Farhel's great grandfather earned some glory in the War of Poppies as a general. So much glory, that his king granted him a small castle and a rather healthy plot of land. But land means nothing against time, and time indeed had its way. Apparently, the Mortron family has few when it comes to coins. The family has fallen out of favor with the current king, earning no sympathetic gifts to bolster their small fief's economy. You yourself cannot relate to economic strife-You are King for goodness's sake. But you do feel sorry for these people.
You certainly wont marry poor Shasa, she is just of too low birth. Perhaps a ward to keep under your wing. You could also make her a noble concubine, earning you prestige with how well-to-do you are to own such a skillful woman. But that is not yet decided-at least not until you get a look at her.
Who comes through your door?
Your name is Gerib and you are the newly crowned king of Amas. This kingdom is no empire, nor can it be said to be any powerful save for the ways of coin and politics. But it is these two aspects that helped your kingdom thrive under your ancestors. With marrying into neighboring kingdoms and making good decisions in trade, your kingdom is immensely prosperous. In fact, as the kingdom progressed in prosperity, noblewomen were no longer giving away daughters, but taking many in-too many. Some noblemen would have one-hundred women waiting to be matched with him. Marriage had to be adapted to accommodate this surge in alliances. Noble harems became the new practice. This did not conflict with the faith of Amas, as Animism in Amas held no grasp in social or legislation business. So here you are, no wives and plenty of women waiting to be matched with you. Children born of these women will not all be your heirs, but they will certainly hold official positions in the government. This is a race, and so women you choose first may be most likely to bear your heir than ones chosen later on.
