Summon Anime Girls
Chapter 1: The Beginning of Everything
[Which do you think is better: the current world or another world?]
"What the hell? Is this a virus? Or did I win something?"
Inside a dimly lit room, where the only sound had been the monotonous hum of an electric fan, an ordinary-looking young man suddenly cried out for no apparent reason.
Toma helplessly stared at the screen in front of him. He rubbed his chin and shook his head.
"Whatever. I'm bored anyway. Virus, hacker, whatever you are, I'll play along. Who knows? Maybe I really did win something. Maybe I'll finally get to be the protagonist for once."
And just like that, Toma began his daily delusions again.
As an otaku, fantasizing was practically part of Toma's daily routine.
In simpler terms...
Daydreaming.
Toma knew perfectly well that constantly daydreaming was basically the same as wasting time and throwing his life away.
And yet, he never got tired of it.
Because he enjoyed it.
That was all there was to it.
Still, daydreaming was one thing and reality was another.
Toma knew there was currently an option waiting for him to choose.
Sure, the whole thing looked exactly like one of those cliché scenes from a web novel...
And sure, there was a very good chance it was complete nonsense...
But Toma decided to give it a try anyway.
Might as well have some fun.
Thinking about how unsatisfying his real life had been, Toma stopped hesitating. He pressed the mouse button and selected his answer.
[Another World]
The instant he clicked it, the text and choices changed so quickly that Toma barely had time to react.
"Heh~! Whoever made this really went all out trying to make it look real!"
With a hint of mockery in his voice, Toma sat alone in front of his computer, talking to himself.
Being an otaku who spent most of his time sitting in front of a computer had left him with a slight habit of speaking to himself.
[Which do you think is better: the 2D world or the 3D world?]
Toma stared at the choices on his monitor and shook his head speechlessly.
"Do you even need to ask? Are you questioning my faith as an otaku? 2D is supreme!"
After shouting that to himself, Toma selected 2D without the slightest hesitation.
[If a 2D goddess and a 3D goddess were standing in front of you at the same time, which would you choose?]
Toma was speechless again.
"Hey, hey! How is this any different from the last question? At least come up with something new!"
As he complained, Toma thought about those real-life celebrities people loved calling "goddesses."
Then he glanced at the lonely figurine sitting on his computer desk.
Toma sighed.
"Compared to those so-called 3D goddesses, 2D really is the only true faith for me..."
And with that, Toma clicked the option for the 2D goddess.
Just like before, the instant he made his choice, the options changed again.
[After arriving in another world, what would your goal be? 1. Conquer the world 2. Become the strongest in the world 3. Become the richest person in the world 4. Build a harem 5. Sightseeing 6. Be an otaku]
"Hey, hey! What the hell is sightseeing?! Who goes all the way to another world just to be a tourist?!"
After his habitual outburst, Toma chose option six without even thinking.
And immediately regretted it.
How the hell was he supposed to live as an otaku if another world didn't have computers or anime?
Not only that, as an otaku, Toma was naturally very interested in building a harem.
If anything, option four—building a harem—should have been the better choice!
"Why couldn't I control my damn hand...?"
Toma repeatedly slapped his right hand with his left while muttering to himself.
But what was done was done.
He had already made his choice, so complaining about it wouldn't change anything.
There wasn't exactly a "Choose Again" button anywhere.
Shaking his head, Toma stopped dwelling on it and looked at the next question.
[How would you like to transmigrate? 1. Reincarnation 2. Soul possession 3. Physical transmigration]
Toma rubbed his chin as he considered the question before eventually choosing option three.
"Obviously, I want to stay myself. Taking over somebody else's body? No thanks."
After his habitual retort, Toma's thoughts began wandering again.
Because by now...
He was starting to wonder whether these questions might actually be real.
First of all, this probably wasn't a computer virus.
A virus wouldn't need to throw this many questions at him.
And there was no reason for a hacker to mess with him like this either.
Unless someone held an enormous grudge against him, what hacker would waste their time creating something this elaborate just to screw with Toma?
So, for the moment, Toma ruled out the possibility of a hacker.
Then...
A prank from one of his friends?
Toma mentally went through everyone he knew, but none of his friends were skilled enough with computers to pull off something like this.
If anything, when it came to computers, Toma was probably the most knowledgeable person among his friends.
That pretty much eliminated the possibility of one of them pranking him.
Becoming a hacker wasn't that easy.
Toma certainly wasn't one himself, and he seriously doubted that his friends, whose computer skills were worse than his, had somehow secretly become master hackers.
So that possibility was out.
Which left only one answer.
The most impossible answer...
Might actually be the most likely one.
Maybe this was real.
Maybe this really was an opportunity.
Whether it was real or fake...
No matter how this ended...
Could the outcome really be any worse than his current life?
After thinking about it for a while, Toma became serious for the first time.
His attitude toward the mysterious selection window completely changed.
Because this thing...
Might actually determine his future.
...
I'm completely sick of this shitty real world.
If this is actually real...
Then screw it.
I'll go crazy just this once.
Even if I eventually find out some hacker was screwing with me, I don't care anymore...
Just let me have one more dream.
