Book of the Corruption (The Souris Triste)

Introduction

Chapter 1 by CMW CMW

Author Note: I am planning to revise the Fool timeline. It would be more accurate to say I haven't written the fool timeline yet. It will be the main timeline and I am going to adapt my previous work into it. My previous work is still live if you want to see the draft before it is revised. This project was ambitious but my Master ordered me to write it and well. Here we are.

I am open to suggestions and ideas you want to see into scenes you want me to include to chapters I am in the process of writing. I will delete this part of the note when I am not longer actively writing. So if you are reading this, and you add a comment I am willing to write. There is a decent chance you will see. My intention is to write about ten endings to this story, I have currently reached o.

I do hope that other authors will be inspired to start their own branches or branch any moment of my own timeline. I do write with that idea in mind.

My introduction chapter always tends to be more "The Rules!" And I don't want to bog you down and the rules are certainly more guidelines meant to inspire your creativity. I will say that each book has a few shared features. I shall share only them here. This is more so you can have more context to how the writing reflects what is happening in the story and if you want to add match that context. But honestly this is Chyoa and these books are meant to be ineffable. So if you wanna dive in a different direction! Go for it. When I reach the end of a book's route. I do plan to explain all the additional rules I was writing that book with in a final deadend chapter for those that just want the rules.

1. Each book causes a 2 effects on touch relative to how repressed they are to the books secret trait. One effect is arousal, the next is a feeling related to the secret trait. Part of this story is the character study aspect of how the same characters act differently when they are corrupted by a different book. The more repressed they are, the stronger the effect is.

2. The books text is ineffable, so it cannot be remembered and its text cannot be heard. Though, a human can technically say it and do magic by doing so. But even they won't fully understand why they have done. I usually show the book's magic by "..." since it is ineffable.

3. If a character is corrupted enough by the book. They can potentially get a womb mark permanently etched into their well, you know where. If so, and absent any other factors, they are generally enslaved. (Each book's womb mark matches its cover)

4. The books are alive and can telepathically speak to those that they have connected enough with.

My main character in this tale is, Eddie Hawk, the Beast. A young college athlete who walking around town a bit sad to learn libraries don't tend to keep the Kama Sutra on the shelf for anyone to grab. Spring break just started and he was hoping for a way to spice up his love life with his sweet sexy girlfriend Chrissy Grant when a woman in a green dress flags him down asking for help. After an odd conversation, she thinks she can help his problem by offering him a book. His instincts are hesitant but ultimately he decides to take the book. After all, what could go wrong from reading a book?

Poor little fool. What could go wrong from reading a book? Books are a gateway to knowledge, and it is knowledge which is power. So to think that power could not lead something to going wrong? Well, fool was the only way to describe someone that didn't understand even that much, but not all fools have bad endings. Perhaps this poor little fool will be lucky as well. It wouldn't be the first time. Would you like to join me in finding out the fate of this poor little fool?

Though, perhaps you may prefer to find a different main characters in an in an entirely different world. These books tend to change shape, and form and even name. Perhaps you have seen one, perhaps you have one? Or maybe you even might be a future book holder? Maybe you will be one of the magicians? Or perhaps you too will be a fool? Or you shall merely watch the fate of others. Whatever your pleasure may be. I hope you find it here, in abundance!
