Crash Landing at a Space Convent

Chapter 1 by StupidHat StupidHat

Your name is Robert Marshall, you are 21 years old, and your ship is crashing. It was supposed to be a simple mission; carry a shipment of armaments to a planet not too far into unregulated space, the area was pretty empty too so the worst you could expect was an errant border patrol checking your trading permits. Hell, your vessel was quite fast for a freighter so even pirates wouldn't have been too hard to handle. What you hadn't expected, though, was a catastrophic systems failure leaving you stranded in space with nearly no propulsion and a barely functioning life support system.

Despite fighting valiantly to keep your ship running, it eventually became apparent to you that the vessel was dead and that if you did not change your situation soon, you would be too. It was about this time that your sensors detected an energy signature in the vicinity. At first you presumed it to be a ship of some sort and try to hail it for assistance, however you soon noticed that its protective energy field and stationary position are more in keeping with a fixed installation or base than a vessel. Why it was refusing to answer your communications and what it is doing in the ass end of unregulated space was still a mystery to you, but quite frankly you were in no position to be picky about where you asked for assistance at that point. Suiting up in your Anti-Vacuum Armour (AVA), you redirected all remaining power to the few functioning thrusters and launched the ship towards the signal.

As you approached, you were finally able to discern that the structure was in fact some form of complex built onto a large stationary asteroid. The buildings varied in size and shape but were all arranged in a hexagon around a central building that looked to be a power station and gravity generation unit. Something about the design of the structures and their cyclopean construction reminded you of a fortress, though there didn't appear to be any noticeable defences within the complex.

With the asteroid drawing very near, you attempted to slow your approach, however the retro-thrusters had become unresponsive and you were left with no way to halt the ship. Stuck hurtling towards an asteroid, you made the hard choice to crash your ship onto an unpopulated region of the asteroid and hope that help reached you before you perished. After entering the desired coordinates, you went to strap yourself into the captain's chair, unfortunately at that point the ship entered into the base's gravitational effect field and you were thrown across the room by its gravitational pull. Shortly afterwards you crashed, though you remembered little of that.
