Empire of Sin and Filth

Adventure inside the corrupt fantasy empire

Chapter 1 by deepedia deepedia

In a world much different than ours, a world with its own history and development, Terra, a land forsaken by their God, where the vile and sinful reign.

Terra wasn’t always like this, there was once a time when the realm of Terra was ruled by the just, good, and wise men. Where everyone could live equally. Yet, the good times never lasted, kingdoms rose and fell; power shifted and changed hands numerous times.

The once prosperous realm was ravaged and torn by wars after wars. One of the most famous wars recorded in the history of the realm of Terra was the hundred years’ War of the Matriarch. As its name suggests, the hundred years' War of the Matriarch lasted for hundred years, it was the war between two kingdoms – No, the two kingdoms should be called queendoms as the queen reigned supreme and had the highest authority in those kingdoms. The two queens were very powerful individuals, not only in the sense of authority but also in individual fighting capabilities. The two of them were comparable to the heroes in myth and legend. Not too surprising as magical and supernatural abilities exist in the realm of Terra. The two were locked in a prolonged war for hundreds of years because they were equally powerful and no one wanted to lose. History recorded that the status quo finally broke when a mysterious third party intervened in their battle. The specific detail of who was the third party was lost in history, but a lot of historians attributed the responsibility for ending the Hundred years' war to the first emperor of the Sod-Morrah empire, HIstorian argued that the rise of the First Emperor and the disappearance of the two queens that ended the wars in anticlimactic fashion was by no mean a coincidence. After the war, the first emperor was able to quickly make the two big kingdoms surrender to him without much resistance; Historians used this as proof that there was the First Emperor meddling in this matter. The two kingdoms were then absorbed to be a kingdom the people of this land called the Sod-Morrah Empire later.

The First Emperor of Sod-Morrah Empire, His majesty Solemn the Great, was famous for his vast knowledge and his technological savviness; under his leadership, the technology of the empire advanced leap and bound, leaving their competitor maybe a century or more behind them in term of technology, His extent of knowledge was beyond that what could be thought of that era as if he cames from far futures or another world. Solemn the Great was a big enigma.

The first emperor invented what nowadays people in this realm called Magitech, a hybrid between advanced technology and magic, the dawn of Magitech made a lot of things that were previously deemed impossible even with magic because human capability limit now possible. Several years later after its development, Magitech was powerful and advanced enough that it served as the empire's strategic weapon when His majesty the first emperor launched a war of expansion to conquer the continent.

The War of Conquest was another famous war recorded in history, but, just like the other media recording about the First Emperor, the detail of his exploit in the war was not recorded properly. The conquest war was much shorter than the hundred years war of the matriarch, the empire was embroiled in the conquest war for only a decade before the war ended with Sod-Morrah Empire conquering 90% of the continent of Terra.

The first emperor with his unmatched intellect probably knew that beyond the seas, beyond their continent of Terra, there must be another continent or archipelago with their own kingdom, yet, the emperor seemed to avoid crossing the sea to conquer another land without any clear explainable reason, he even took a soul-binding oath that his descendant should never conquer lands beyond the Terra. Thus, with the oath of the First Emperor, the age of war finally ended with Sod-Morrah empire becoming the clear winner and lord of the land.

Around half a millennium had passed since the Sod-Morrah Empire united the continent of Terra under their banner, and just like everything, the Empire must face the test of times. After passing through disaster, plague, failed revolution, the passing of King Solemn, and others up and down in life; the empire proved itself able to stand the test of time even when things got changed here and there, but at what price?

Freedom.

The Empire ended up taking the route of dystopian rulership to survive and became the empire we had nowadays. People were divided into strict classes and chaste, slavery, and **** of authority in the name of preserving peace. The Empire had tried to use all the drastic measures from the dictatorship rulebooks to preserve their existence for more than five centuries.

After generations of domestication and brainwashing induction, most subjects of the Empire had no more thought of rebelling or raising a revolution. The Empire’s ruling class had successfully planted the ideas down to their very subconsciousness that their government was already the best thing this world could offer.

,

In Sod-Morrah Empire, the citizens were divided into 5 classes. The first, the highest class of people was the ruling class royalty, the descendant of King Solemn himself. They got impunity from every rule of the empire except the law and oath of the royal family which dictated their upbringing and way to conduct themselves. The royal family was still engaged in ‘****’ till nowadays to keep their bloodline pure, the law stipulated that the Sod-Morrah royal family could only have another partner coming from the royal family as a sexual partner. They could still have any other kind of sexual gratification with other women but vaginal penetration was forbidden for the royal family unless they did it with another royal family member. Thankfully, with the advancement of technology, the chance of birth defects from incestual relationships was minimized as low as it could be. But birth defect was the least worry they had, the royal family till this date had more than 500 people alive that were considered sexually productive, plenty enough to get an option to pick a far relative instead of a direct one if some scions of the family hesitated to have sex with their sibling, or mother.

The second class below the royal was the ‘noble’ a.k.a the old influential oligarch family. Most of the nobles were the ruling class from the kingdom conquered by the empire and made vassals, their status as lord and the royal family of their kingdom had been revoked to avoid confusion with Sod-Morrah royal family, but the Empire let them become a family that had a big influence in their demesne because their loyalty to the empire, of course, the rebelling one have different fates than them because empire didn’t tolerate any thought of rebelling. These families were still subject to the empire law but exempted from a few of the harshest draconian ones, such as they didn’t need to send their descendants to the induction camp as long as they could afford to hire a private induction teacher for homeschooling their children.

The third class was the Freeman; the peasant, and grassroots society, they were fully under the jurisdiction of the empire law without any exception. The freeman had their descendant taken to the induction camp as soon as their children didn’t need their mother's sustenance anymore, so the parents and children didn’t grow too attached to each other. In the induction camp, they become children of the nation as the empire provided everything to them, these children were living in the induction camp until their coming of age and legally adult by Empire’s standard, then released back to society, whether it was as another freeman or government servant. After much brainwashing in the induction camp, the freeman was often a simple and ignorant person who didn’t want to think too much about complex stuff. Freeman had their libido cranked up to distract them from overthinking, They usually filled the rough labor jobs, but depending on their performance, the Empire didn’t prohibit Freeman to work in more complex jobs if they had the capabilities and attention span.

The fourth class was the Government Servant, they were called government servants just to tone down what they actually were. The Empire's ruling class knew the importance of filling crucial posts with capable people to keep the nation running as a whole. And the Government Servant came in playing their part in filling that post. All the government servants were once the best children among their peers in the induction camp cluster. The empire went an extra mile to invest in their brainwashing to make them Empire loyal dogs. Their investment wasn’t for nothing, as these government servants were completely fanatic to the empire’s ideology and had absolute obedience to the royal family once they came out from the induction camp to take their working posts. Contrary to the ignorant freeman, the government servants were complex thinkers and workaholics, they almost abstain from sex except when it was necessary or when the royalties showed interest in having sex with them. Allowing complex thought patterns sometimes brought the Government Servant to think about prohibited matters they shouldn’t ever think of. If this situation occurred, these government servants would punish themselves as harshly as possible as long as it didn’t endanger their own life.

And the last class, the fifth class; the Societal Waste, unlike the other classes, this category of class covered several kinds of people, The Societal Waste referred to the rebel, criminals, and anyone who failed the induction camp. The chance to naturally fail from the induction camp was abysmally low, it only happened when someone had innate resistance to mind control and several kinds of brainwashing which was very rare. But, unlike the naturally resistant one, the number of cases when the induction teacher intentionally messed with the inductee and label them as failure was quite high, these teachers usually targeted girls who were too beautiful but didn’t have the capabilities to be Government Servant. They would mess with the girl's programming and make her deviant toward the Empire’s rules and order, thus they would fail the test to be freeman when they were about to be released back into the society, then the government of the Empire would label them as Societal Waste. This class of people didn’t get any protection from Empire’s law, so, they were considered free-to-use, or free-to-**** without any consequence for the perpetrator even when they accidentally killed them. The empire had harsh laws regarding homicide and premeditated **** done by the non-governmental body because every life was a precious resource that belonged to the empire, but this law gave a leeway and waiver to the perpetrator if the dead ones were classed as Societal Waste as long as the perpetrator could prove that the loss of life was an accident. Societal Waste was often **** and used in human experimentation done by the Empire's scientists or magicians to try their newest invention because of this.

.There was another class of people, albeit an unofficial one, the Wildling, or Foreigner. Beyond the seas, beyond the continent of Terra, there were several other nations founded but most of them could be considered young nations compared to the Empire's rich five hundred years of history. But the Empire couldn’t put its hand on these nations with their military might because the royal family was bound by the oath of the First Emperor, thus Empire used some other kind of approach in interacting with these nations instead of using ****.

The Empire usually closed its border for the Wildling because of the fear that they would poison the thoughts of their citizens, the illegal immigrants were swiftly caught, and isolated. They were then either deported back to their own nation or used for human experimentation if they came from hostile nations. The people exposed to Wilding wild’s ideas would also be tracked by the government and brought to another brainwashing center, depending on the degree of severity, they could be released back into the same class when they came or declassified as Societal Waste. But unlike the action they took toward illegal Wildling, the empire was very open to the diplomatic delegation from other nations that visited them regularly for any kind of business. Some Empire’s royal family scions were even very close with them and liked sending invitations to their foreign friends. It was an open secret that some royal family scions were trading favor and gathering support from these foreigner delegations in order to strengthen their position for the next throne of the emperor.

These kinds of visitors knew the rules and customs of the empire, so they would not make a fuss and instead participate in the debauched custom of the empire. These diplomatic delegations were treated as royal guests, which meant they were considered to be just below the royal family in terms of impunity against the law, but they still can’t do as their wish in the empire as their right was quite limited, In case, that these ‘diplomatic delegations’ was breaking a lot of law, albeit the law of empire couldn’t hold them liable, they would be expelled from the empire and banned from entering the empire ever again.

This was the classification for the ordinary denizen in the land of Terra. But, Terra didn’t only have normal powerless people, magic and supernatural ability existed in the land of Terra, hence, the Empire had a different classification that gave different treatment to them.

In this realm, Magician or Magus, was always a **** to be reckoned with because of their power. Not everyone could be a magus, only when a person had a high aptitude for mana or was born with superpowered abilities could call themselves a Magus, hence, most magus was quite arrogant and prideful because they thought of themselves as special being above the rest of humanity in this realm. In the past, their arrogance had caused a big conflict between them and the Empire’s government. The civil unrest they created was on the scale of civil wars, and the Empire ordered a witch hunt across the land to purge rebelling Magus. Magus was special, but since the advancement of Magitech, which let ordinary people able to wield magic as long as they knew how to operate the tech, the importance of low-level Magus was diminished, and the existence of this Magitech was the underlying reason for the civil wars triggered by the Magus; they didn’t want their privilege and uniqueness reduced by such tools.

It cost a lot of sacrifices before the belligerent parties finally reached a satisfying agreement between them. Thus, the Empire’s Magus covenant came into existence; High-level Magus would enjoy the royal family treatment and get the same privilege as royal family members, but because the law and oath of the royal family couldn’t be applied to them, a high-level Magus of Empire must make a very strict and detailed soul-binding oath that guaranteed their loyalty to the Empire. Meanwhile, low-level Magus were gathered under the banner of the Magus Guilds recognized by the Empire. Any Magus Guild would be considered the same as the noble's influential family, hence, the members of the Guild got the same level of treatment as the noble class and followed the same rules as them. Magus Guilds got some other incentives to differentiate them from ordinary noble families, such as the Empire would need to give them sizable sums of yearly funding for their activities even though the Guild didn’t work directly in any government institution.

Next, were the Scientists. Scientists were one of the most crucial human resources of the Empire. Their top-level scientists even had their identity hidden by the government and got protected 24/7 in fear that an accident would happen to them. Unlike with Magus, the relationship between scientists and government was in a harmonious relationship since the groups of scientists around the realm hold King Solemn in deep reverence as he was considered the father of modern science.

Because of the necessity of their job, the Empire allowed wider freedom of thought and freedom of speech for Scientists. As long as it was reasonable, in an uncommon case, they could even get away freely after criticizing the Empire’s regime. This level of treatment showed how important this group of people was in the Empire's eyes.

Similar to the Magus, Scientists that worked in top-level government secrets would be treated like the royal family, but top-level scientists would rarely be allowed to appear in public as a safety measure and attempt to control them. The other scientist who studied less crucial fields got the same treatment as a noble class like low-level magus. And unlike Top-level scientists who had a pack of bodyguards' entourage 24/7, this kind of scientist was usually accompanied by only 1 or 2 personal assistants. Their assistants would usually be picked from the Government Servant pool, but sometimes, they would also have Freeman as their personal assistant depending on their field of study.

Between the parties of Magus and Scientist, there were other important occupations that were given differential treatment from the empire; the Mind Master, the Induction Master, the Induction Teacher, Tuning Teacher, or whatever fancy title people call those who specialized in brainwashing people. The people in this line of job were obliged to work under direct supervision from the Empire’s propaganda department. The propaganda department issues certification for these mind-controllers for them to be permitted to use their mind-controlling expertise. Any mind-controllers who get found out that they were mind-controlling people without prior having the certification from the propaganda department would be hunted and punished harshly, often outright killing them on the spot in fear that the mind-controller would go rogue.

The level of treatment these mind controllers got from the Empire depended on how long they had been working for the empire, thus they got classed into Senior Induction Teacher, and Junior Induction Teacher, if they had been working for the Empire’s propaganda department for more than 10 years, they would be classed as Senior Induction Teachers, and received the same level of benefit as a royal family member. Under 10 years of service times, they would be classed as Junior Induction Teachers, Junior Induction Teachers received the same level of treatment as noble. Controlling these mind controllers to not go rogue with their power was quite tricky even for the resourceful Empire as some of them were able to shrug off even soul-binding oaths, and putting someone beside them to monitor their activity 24/7 wasn’t possible, the Empire gave them the freedom of movement without any restriction except that they need to report to the nearest propaganda center at the end of the day, or else, the military would be sent to apprehend them. Repeated offenses in a short period of time could net them capital punishment.

So, in this kind of world, who are you?

  • Albus Crowley, a low-level Magus, seeker of truth.

Quick overview: Albus Crowley was born in the noble family of Crowley and he showed his aptitude for mana in his early ages, thus, according to Empire’s Magus Covenant, the Crowley didn’t need to hire an Induction Teacher for him, and instead could send him to their city Magus Guild once he could live independently from his mother. Young Albus grew up in the Magus Guild and built his personality from his surroundings; arrogant, prideful, and narcissistic would be other people’s first impression of him. Once upon a time, the teenager Albus got into contact with his family genealogy, and he saw something fascinating; there was a possibility that his ancestor was one of the missing Queens from the War of the Matriarch 500 years ago. This finding kindled the prideful Albus Crowley’s desire to know the truth. Thus, his journey as a seeker of truth about what happened 500 years ago began. Obviously, it wasn’t an easy thing, and the journey would be full of obstruction from someone who didn’t want the truth to be revealed

  • Junius Nein Solemn, the 69th prince of Sod-Morrah Empire, an ambitious prince.

Quick Overview: Junius Nein Solemn, the 69th in line for the throne of Sod-Morrah Empire. Junius was born from a lustful relationship between the 6th Prince and the 24th princess. The royal family of Solemn had messy genealogy because of their tangled relationship with each other. The relationship between royal family members usually didn’t get tied in any official manner, couples changed easily and they moved on to new sexual partners as if wasn’t much big deal, well…sometimes, someone would hold a grudge and scheme some nasty thing behind their ex back to make them paid. The only emotional attachment that existed in the royal family probably was only between the children and their mother. Junius wasn’t an exception to this, he was emotionally attached to the 24th princess, his mom, even as far as having a crush on her, on the other hand, the 24th princess didn’t put Junius in her eyes aside from doing her duty as Mother because of the law of the Royal family. She had conceived a few other heirs from relationships between several other princes after Junius didn’t need her sustenance anymore. The 24th princess was quite a big slut among the princess but it didn’t stop Junius from being attracted to his mother. It was the reason Junius had the ambition to be the greatest of all princes and get the throne for himself, to prove to his mother that he was worth

  • Nicholas Moose, Junior Induction Teacher, first month on his job.

Quick Overview: Nicholas Moose, a new mind controller in town. Many mind controllers weren’t a native to the Empire, they were Wildlings seeking asylum or a new hunting ground, but there were also mind controllers who were natives to the Empire. When a mind controller awakened their mind-controlling ability, every previous brainwashing the Empire did to them would be undone. Scientists couldn’t explain what caused this phenomenon, but Magus theorized that it was because something happened to their souls, the theory was still unconfirmed whether it was true or not. Nicholas Moose was one of these natives, he was a Freeman before, but one day, after being involved in a work accident, he awakened his mind-controlling ability and could feel his foggy mind being clear for once, but even when his brainwashing was undone, Nicholas who spent all his life in induction camp and being dull freeman was unsure what he should do with his newfound capabilities, rather than running amok with his power, he reported his case to the Government and they referred him to the nearest propaganda center. After several months of training, he got his Junior Induction Teacher certificate and was ready for his first job. He was lucky that he got his first post at one of the induction camps in the big city that was famous for their ‘seed’ to boot, but it was also a test for Nicholas' resolve, whether he was properly doing his job or took fancy to the beauty there’ and keeping her for himself.
