The World is a Playground

The world of Arid is beautiful. People have been living, loving, and reproducing here for centuries. There are conflicts, sure, but they're always are. The people are organized hierarchically. There is always a leader, king, or whatever this ruler calls himself. In this world, anyone can rise and become whatever they want if they just work hard enough. But this is only the view of the people. Gullible and blind sheep. In truth, Arid is only the playing field for two sides that have been fighting for supremacy for centuries. These sides are formed by the race of the Ascended. Beings of Light who bask in the glow of their power and like to be in the limelight. Their opponents are the fallen ones. Beings who are given to darkness and secrecy. This does not mean feasting on their power, but they avoid attention. These beings walk the earth in human form and pursue their goals there. They come to Arid through portals from their world. However, both sides have one thing in common. They draw their life energy from the souls of humans. If they are worshipped, feared or people are bound to them by pacts or oaths, the powers of the beings increase. Also, these beings are stronger, faster, and more persevering than humans, also they do not die so easily.
