Into the trees!

The Heat Rises

There is no doubt in your mind that staying on the ground will most likely result in you becoming this monster's meal... or worse. Knowing you're out of time to decide, you take a sharp right and head into the thickest grouping of oak's you can find. The sinister grunting of the Charmeleon behind you only spurs you on harder and faster toward a large tree. Just feet before slamming head first into the trunk, you cord your legs tight and propel yourself up the side of the tree. You make it just two steps up the base before you hear a loud crack against the trunk. The pained cry gives you a brief moment of satisfaction as your momentum from the leap fades away and your **** extend your claws to cling to the bark. You scramble your way up into the darkened branches just as a burst of flame lights up the trunk of the tree.

With a nervous glace downward, a sigh of relief escapes you throat as the barely conscious Charmeleon laid low and groaning comes into view. You realize that the supposed fire attack was actually an involuntary reaction to his big empty head hitting the wood. You wince as you recall the great shock you felt run through the bark as the lizard made contact. There's little doubt the pitiful creature would have trouble keeping up the chase, let alone a fight. You briefly consider returning to the forest floor to make your victory a bit more 'Definitive', before shaking the thought away. "Live and let live, friend...", You mumble sarcastically. Without wasting another moment, you steal away into the growing dawn, leaping through the branches and leaves as the sun peaks over the hills...
