Chapter 9 by shmonroe shmonroe

Where to begin?

Interview(s) with Monster Girl(s)

Author's note: This chapter is kinda gonna be a lore dump about monster girls, and although we won't learn everything there is to know, I recommend sticking around if you're into monster girl knowledge, like me.

You put on your internal writer's cap and start:

Day 5

Quite a lot has happened today, and I'm dead tired. The good news is I've found something worth writing about. The bad news is that it almost killed me. I followed a lead about a huge red snake from a local hunter's eyewitness account. The trail led me West to a cave that seemed to be the large beast's home, if it did exist. Unfortunately for me at the time, it did exist, and it wasn't happy about finding someone intruding on its territory. I should say she wasn't happy, because this beast is a rather enormous snake, that actually morphs into a human woman at her hips. Put simply, imagine a girl with a gigantic snake's body instead of legs. Her name is Rits, and she's beautiful.

Well, as blunt as it is, that's not a lie.

Although she tried to kill me, we're...

You think back to some particularly steamy events that took place not too long ago today.

…getting along just fine now. All just a big miscommunication. I was even able to remove an arrow stuck in her side with no trouble, which she payed me back for in kind.

Yeah that's one way to put it.

I'll now conduct an interview, and write her answers as best I can.

And with that, you stop writing and look up.

"Rits?"

She's back to paying attention to you now.

"Yes? Ready now?"

"Yep, let's just start easy...

…please tell me about you."

"Well, you already know my name..." she states blankly.

"Your name, yes. Your history is what I don't know."

"Oh! Well...

My father was a human. Like you! Although he wasn't as cute as you..."

Your heart skipping a beat there, you continue writing her words...

"My mother was a lamia, like me, as you could've guessed."

Lamia. So that's what she calls her species.

"Together, they had 10 daughters, including the most gorgeous of the bunch, yours truly." she says while placing her fists on her hips, puffing out her chest triumphantly.

You don't know if that's true, but if her sisters are anywhere near her beauty, they're no slouches either.

"10 daughters, huh? I imagine your dad wasn't happy he didn't get at least one son."

"Hm?"

Rits looks confused.

"A son. Your parents had 10 daughters and no boys?"

"No, of course not. Children born of the union between men and monsters are all pure monsters like their mother. And all monsters are female. We leave our parents once we're sexually mature enough to find a human mate of our own, and the cycle continues."

Interesting... but now you have another question that you probably should've asked earlier.

"You're sexually mature?"

"Oh, Darling..." her voice almost sexily growls your new nickname.

"I think you know that by now."

That's not going in the journal.

"Ahem, uh... how old are you...?" You try to regain your composure through another serious question.

"By my count, about 18 winters since I emerged from my egg, coming up on 19 this year." she says looking up to the ceiling, double-checking her math.

She's the same age as you, but it surprises you more that she actually knows how to count.

"You know numbers? Like counting? Math?"

She almost looks offended.

"Ech! Darling, I'm not dumb... I know how to count. My father taught all of us stuff like numbers and counting, while my mother taught us the language of our species, and the... finer aspects of human + monster reproduction and anatomy."

So those words earlier were a different language!

"I heard you speaking that other language before. What were you speaking?"

"Slang. The mother tongue of all lamia. At least my mom said so.

You know... I'd be happy to teach you some words sometime, geliefde..."

Writing this down, you move on to the next question that comes into your head.

"You mentioned monster girls leave the nest to find human men. You don't travel into towns to find these men, do you?"

"No, of course not! Towns are dangerous, my mom said. Told us to never go near them. She said to find a man travelling alone, far from settlements, to take as a husband."

She stops talking before remembering something else from her childhood.

"I once tried to ask my father about where he came from, but he couldn't come up with anything. My mom scolded me and made me drop the questions... she said human men lose their memories once they've mated with monsters. A magic spell placed on our bodies activates with contact to human semen. The man it belongs to changes, almost instantly. Their body becomes stronger, their endurance increases, and their semen production exponentially multiplies. But their memories of their past lives... they disappear. Replaced only with fond feelings toward their wife or wives. Human men completely become our property. Heart and soul."

That's... a lot to take in. First, you have heard rumors about the western frontiers being a cursed place. Men disappear every so often from settlements and villages, those that were able to escape capture tell of monsters living in the no man's land beyond human borders.

And... a magic spell? You know magic exists in some form, but users are rare and their abilities limited by what little knowledge we have of the arcane arts so far. For an entire race of creatures to have a magic spell casually affect people they come into contact with... more information could mean a major breakthrough in this field.

That aside, you nearly have a heart attack upon hearing that last part. Your mind races to remember something, anything about where you came from. Your fears are put to rest when you can recall the names and faces of most anyone you've ever met, at least the ones you cared about to begin with.

"But, I can still remember my past... things like my home village, the smell of food cooking at home, all those small things are still there..."

Rits nods in confusion.

"Strange... they should've disappeared immediately. Is there something wrong with me? Or do you somehow have protection against magic?"

You don't think there's anything wrong with either of you, but you can't fully vouch for her. At least you have reason to believe you have an immunity to magic, since you've never heard anyone being "immune" to it before.

"Interesting..." you say as you mull over the pieces of this puzzle in your head, lacking major clues to this mystery.

"B-But Darling! Now that means you can tell me all about your family too! This is wonderful! I want to know so much about humans!"

You chuckle, faced with her inquisitive nature. She really is a mirror to you.

"In a bit, I still have some more questions."

She makes an exaggerated pout, but waits for your next question all the same.

"You left your mom and dad? Must not be easy having to live on your own so soon."

"All monsters leave their parents to start their own lives, you know. But... it was just our mom by then. I decided I couldn't stay anymore, and headed East, towards where my mom said humans live..."

"Oh, what happened to your father, then?"

Her face shifts into solemn expression.

"I don't... really feel like talking about it..."

"Hm? Why not?"

You forget your manners in the pursuit of knowledge, not noticing you've stepped over a boundary.

"It's just... he isn't..."

She takes a deep breath as she looks at the ground.

"...the wolves snuck up on us while we slept... Dad was the first one to wake up before they could attack...

…he yelled as he ran... and the animals followed him as the rest of us woke up...

...all we found when we finally caught up to where the battle took place were two of their dead, and... what was left of his shirt...

…the blood went off into the forest. My mother ordered us to stay there as she licked the air and followed his trail, but...

We waited for a long time...

...she didn't say anything when she came back... she just..."

She holds her sides with her arms, clearly seeing that night in her mind now. Her voice shakes more, threatening to fail any second now.

"…just laid down and... cried...

After that... none of us asked about what she found...

It wasn't long after that I left... and..."

Rits has tears streaming down her face now. You realize too late you shouldn't have prodded this far, but you can't take back your words.

"Does that answer your ques-"

Without thinking further, you throw your arms around her and hug her deeply without letting her say anything else.

Whispering into her ear while she sobs, you try to fix your mistake.

"I'm so sorry, Rits. It's alright. "

Her crying is muffled as she's held close to your heart.

"John..."

You pull her head away and look down at her. Since she's still bigger than you, you're basically standing while she still sits upright on her tail.

"Don't... don't leave me... I don't want to be alone again..."

"I'm not going to leave you, Rits." you promise to her, and yourself.

"Please... don't leave me..."

"I won't. Darling..."

You're **** back tears of your own. You have a responsibility to her now. You've clearly become someone special to Rits in this very short time you've known each other, just as she has become special to you.

Pulling back into a hug on even level now, you notice her tongue reaching up to your face again. You pretty much guess by now, this is her species' way of showing affection.

Before she can touch you, you try something of your own.

You stick out your tongue and lick her cheek quickly, before going in for a soft kiss to her forehead, stroking the back of her head as you do.

A strange noise interrupts you as you look down.

She's... laughing?

Rits is still crying and wiping tears from her eyes, but her mouth has somewhat formed into a smile. She giggles between sniffles as the overflow from her tear ducts runs down through her nose and out her nostrils. She's somehow still beautiful, even in this sad state.

Somewhere in this process, you swear to yourself that you'll never do anything to make her cry ever again.

"Darling... what was that?"

She looks genuinely amused by your (by normal standards) gross action.

"I just... uh... saw you doing that to me earlier when I was in pain, so I thought... I'd do the same for you..."

She doesn't laugh at you like expected, but still has a smile on her face.

"Well... I didn't tell you to stop..."

She gently pushes you to the ground and kisses your lips.

Missing from earlier, there's no tongue going down your throat this time, just a pure kiss between lovers.

You're not sure how long you stay connected like this, but she pulls up eventually as your eyes start to drift closed. You're emotionally, mentally, and physically exhausted, but feel safe in her arms, on the verge of passing out right there.

"Alright. You made a promise. I'll hold you to it."

She suddenly brings her thumb up to her mouth and bites into it with one of her fangs, drawing blood. She winces at the pain, but powers through.

"What? What are yo-MM!"

She shoves her thumb into your mouth, blood pouring in with it. It's warm like yours, but it's kind of... sweet? Not the taste of iron that comes with normal blood.

"Swallow."

The word is hushed, but she speaks with a commanding tone you haven't heard her use yet.

You do as she says, not wanting her to do anything else to hurt herself.

Satisfied as she feels your throat close around her blood and send it down to your stomach, she continues speaking in a faint, breathy voice.

"Now I'm inside you, like you're inside me."

She rubs her flat tummy up and down with her other hand as she says this, right over her womb.

"We're connected forever. What you give, I'll return. What I give, you'll return. Husband and wife. Equal in every way."

I'm sure mom will be happy to hear I'm married now. Not sure she'll be as happy to see her grandkids are half-human half-snake monster hybrids...

Her comforting words almost sing you to sleep like a lullaby. The sweet taste of her blood no longer fresh, but not a bad aftertaste by any means. You still have so many questions, but they will have to wait.

Your head grows feverishly hot, body aching, mind going completely silent as you focus only on the warmth pressing into your body...

You're down for the count. The last thing you recall is someone petting your head as a woman hums a wordless song from some far off place. You fall into a deep, dreamless sleep.
