Chapter 8 by Cretan_Bull14 Cretan_Bull14

Dining? Or skip to Karaoke? Or further?

Interupted

As you are driving to Doe’s apartment complex, she stares at you from her side of the car. In glancing over at her, you notice a red pickup truck behind you. You swear you saw the same truck at the theatre. Come to think of it, it was also parked behind you at the restaurant. Someone is following you. There is only one person that would have enough of a reason to be following you tonight, Hank. You say nothing to Doe, as you don’t want to alarm her. Instinctively, you call your father on your cell phone.

“Hey Dad!!! How’s Courtney doing? Oh that’s good. Tell her I said ‘hi’. Listen, you were telling me that you needed some new glasses for the pub. We just passed the outlet mall and Glazer’s has a one-day sale going on. One hundred glasses for ten sixty-six. They’re open all night, so I’ll pick up Adam, Ida and David later and we’ll all swing by the bar to help. Okay Dad. Tell Courtney that her mommy says to be a good girl!” You hang up the phone. Doe just continues to stare at you.

Whatever Hank is up to, you know it’s probably no good. When you get to the intersection to head towards the apartment, you make a left instead of a right. Doe picks up on it right away.

“What’s wrong?” Doe asks you.

“Oh, nothing. I’m having so much fun chauffeuring you around town that I don’t want to go home just yet.” You say as you give her a reassuring smile.

“Oh, okay.” She replies. As you keep driving, you make a quick turn up onto Main Street, and then on to Central Avenue. Half a block up the road, you park the car, right in front of your father’s pub. You hop out of the car and rush over to the passenger side and open the door.

John, I thought I said I didn’t want to do karaoke tonight.” Doe says angrily.

“We’re not here for that. Now get out of the car quickly.” You say as you flash a quick glance to the truck, which has parked a block or two up the street.

“We can get the glasses for your father later.” She says, but quickly notices your concern about something else.

“There is no sale on glasses. I was giving my father police codes to get help and meet us here.” You tell her.

“What’s wrong?” She asks adamantly. She looks like she is about to panic.

“We need to get inside. Ten sixty-six means a suspicious vehicle. I think Hank has been following us all night. Try to look like you are about to have a good time.” You try to sooth her as you walk inside.

Does Hank take the bait?
