Intermission

Deep in the bowels of the underground, the king of the demons watches his subjects.
King Calamity, the self-proclaimed God of Deception and Destruction, observes his kingdom through the many security cameras around the resort. His eyes narrow as he spies his most loyal son, Rees, stalk his prospective mount.
In the Kings lap, a woman's head bobs on his cock. The King is rarely without the company of his concubine.

His aide, Jekct, approaches him.
"The next hunt is almost here sir. In light of recent developments, I think we should-"
"I hardly think that Rayjack has the means to take advantage of the hunt for himself. He'll tire of this latest temper tantrum swiftly when Rees finds him."
"Of course, sir."
"He will return. He can't run forever."

Something was amiss in his kingdom.
He couldn't put his finger on it but when he gazed out at his kingdom, something was off. Out of place. That stripling Midden was making too many friends. Was that it?
Or...
No matter.
They would all come to heel eventually.

Deep in the heart of the island, a young woman waits for morning inside a long abandoned cabana. She was sweating behind her mask, the swatch of cloth that hid her face, but her paranoia prevented her from removing it.
Her father called her "Prince Rayjack."
Prince. Son. 'My boy.'
Rayjack always despised these descriptors. They were not her. She was not a him. That was always a point of contention between them. He refused to recognize her this way. So, when making her escape, she took the form of one of his discarded concubines. He would never think to look for her like this.
She wasn't a demon. Not really. She wasn't unlike one, though. She could take over a human body and sit inside it. But most demons couldn't use magic to bring a dead body back and use that as a host. She could. And she did a pretty good job of it, she thought.
In the morning, she would set out and find that soul that she freed. Any ally would be worth it in this crusade. It had to be worth it.
For her mother and for the countless innocent souls taken in this worthless shadow war, it had to be worth it.
