Interested in Jan

“I know you a new to the Mythfolk way of dating,” he began, “and I want to assure you that if you are not interested, it is fine.” Jan quickly pulled some of the food which had been displayed from her body and stood up. “But I have interests in you, more than just sex.”

Jan stepped up to Gen and took his hands in hers. “Your daughter mentioned she thought you were interested in me.”

Gen nodded, “Always more able to see these things than I,” he said.

“She is very perceptive,” she took a breath, “Gen, it’s not that I am not interested, you are very interesting and lovely to be around, and my god, are you good in bed. Had I not been with Steve when we met, had I not been so new to the idea of having multiple relationships. I would gladly say yes. But with my wedding coming up and my relationship with your daughter so new, I would be worried I would not be able to give you or her the time you both deserve.”

Gen nodded, then a smile crept across his face. “I understand humans go away for a while with their partner once they are married.”

Jan nodded at that, “A honeymoon, yes.”

“Well, when you return from your honeymoon, think about it. I will be here when that is done and if you feel you have the time. I would be pleased to have you as my Hi’yet, one I am committed.”

Jan smiled, “So Kay is your Hi’yet?” she asked.

Gen nodded, “It has many uses, Kay is indeed my Hi’yet in this way, but she would be happy with me having another as I would be happy with her. Kaya is also my committed, though not in the same way. One day, when she joins her own herd, she will become my Hi’dan, one who I still look after but needs not my care.”

Jan frowned, “So Hi’yet is a noun which means someone you care for?”

Gen smiled, “I am still not good with your tongue, a noun is?”

“It’s a name, like Kay or Kaya, but also can be used for a title, like a Wife or a Daughter,” she explained.

Gen shook his head. It was a strangely human motion for him. “No, more a way of describing, like beautiful, or loving.” He told her as he raised on hand to stroke her cheek. “It means I am, to you, committed, or I am, once was committed.”

Jan smiled at his touch. She wanted to say yes but knew her head and heart was already reeling. “I will keep thinking on this, Gen, and will let you know.”

Gen nodded, “I ask from you nothing you are not want to give.”

Jan laughed, “I take it that is a saying from your homeland?”
