Chapter 9
by Cantalope
Where does she awaken?
In a test tube.
Aster stirred weakly, her head was killing her but she could already feel the pain fading. Fey metabolism would have her back in top shape in no time. Blearily looking around she had a hard time making sense of her surroundings:
She seemed to be in a glass tube of sorts, lined up alongside many others. Other fairies fought frantically against the glass to her left and right, their cries muffled and their efforts eliciting faint clinking noises. They were lined up along a table, cluttered papers and books in front of them.
A dozen things like the one that attacked her watched the captives. Most of them weren't as large and their features lacked the bestial qualities of her assailant. They almost looked like fairies except they were curvier, more muscular, and they all had the same ugly wings. Their colors had no variety: they were all the same deep red with black hair and nails. The biggest difference between each was the color of their eyes, which ranged from deep red to vibrant shades of blue.
They were stalking around the tubes, eyeing the fairies hungrily. Some of them looked uncomfortable in their metal clothing, rubbing their legs together and wiggling in their corsets like they had a terrible itch they couldn't scratch.
Farther away stood a human, enormous as always, who seemed to be scribbling frantically in a notebook. He wore a bright white coat, stained and burnt, and moved with the exaggerated slowness of the big-folk. As he turned, Aster recoiled. Human skin could be so pockmarked, it was disgusting!
Angrily rising to her feet, Aster called upon the magic of the glade to break the glass and free her and her sisters...but nothing happened. The red-skinned creatures laughed derisively at her confusion and one of them waved a finger at her mockingly. Angrily pounding on the glass Aster drew renewed laughter from her captors and the horned one stepped forward, smirking. It spoke in a husky, rough tone, dripping anger and passion, so unlike the airy tones of the fey:
"Don't bother Aster, our magic's stronger than the lot of you put together." As she focussed on the scantily clad creature, a look of horrified recognition swept across her features. It was Lily, one of her friends! The smirk widened to a grin as the corrupted fairy drummed her fingers teasingly across the glass.
"Surprised to see me Aster? You really hurt me when I tried to say hello, I expected a nicer welcome from a friend." Her own words seemed to drain the mirth from her eyes and her grin became an angry grimace.
"Not that you missed me did you? You air-headed bitch."
"W-Wha-?" Aster was having trouble making sense of the situation.
"What happened to me? Same thing that's gonna happen to you bitch. Hope you're ready for round two when you get out of there!" The corrupted fairy stomped off, the air around her almost seeming to ripple with anger.
"Oh don't mind her Aster." Aster dazedly looked over at one of the guards, smiling innocently up at her "Lilith runs a little hot, her change was a little different from ours." A long blue tongue flicked out and licked the suddenly not-so-innocent looking lips, "we'll take good care of you when you come out of there."
What does the "change" entail?

Corrupted Glade
It's the little things...
Follow's a fairies life as corruption threatens her home. The little folk have long lived in peace and harmony with their forest home but something...wrong is encroaching on their territory and tainting the pure magic of the glade and the minds of the little folk themselves...
