In Karakura Town, shortly after the Soul Society Arc!
Ultimately, the Lamp descended into an area of the Human World with a decent amount of spiritual energy flowing about. Less immediate attention that way at least, but potential interesting events and individuals to work with. It clattered against a random sidewalk, rolling slightly, and settled in, waiting for a hand to find and rub it.
It did not have to wait long to be found, as something sensed it, and approached.
