Chapter 4 by TheSpectator TheSpectator

Do you want to go to the party?

If she's going, then I'm going too!

“Hai,” you nod and then stretch. “I’ll go tonight. It isn’t just people from your workplace, is it?”

Liam chuckled, now looking a little pink. “Of course not. We got folks from pretty much everyone involved. I thought about not going after Klaus opted out, but hey, now that you’re going, I’m ALL IN.”

You smirked. You could tell it wasn’t just you that liked Liam’s character. His friendly demeanor and relaxed attitude assured you that even if things continue to fall apart with Emily, hanging out with him wouldn’t be so bad.

You and Liam part ways. He goes off to continue working while you peel over to where you usually work. You find yourself surrounded by a spotless department with everything straightened out picture-perfect. This was the kind of thing the corporate always wanted. In the center of it all was Klaus...You. Seeing yourself through someone else’s eyes was weird. It was downright creepy.

You approached yourself and smiled. Klaus walked over, looking like he was about to burst with glee. “How’s it going, Raiden.”

The voice...did you always sound like that? You sounded different. That was the first time hearing yourself with different ears- nor were you prerecorded. “This is weird,” you mumble.

Klaus shrugged. “It’ll be worth it.”

Your eyes had no life. You were missing parts of yourself, and you could tell. Did anyone else? “How’s, uh, work?”

Klaus nodded, looking around the department. “Well, I know I shouldn’t be saying this, but without you distracting yourself with music and personal matters, this is surprisingly easy.”

“Hey now. I’m human.”

“Whatever,” Klaus sighs. “How’d it go with Emily?”

“Ah...not great. She stormed off after I called her boyfriend a douche. And some other things.”

You’re met with knitted brows. “As your body and brain, I don’t really care if you mess this up, but your consciousness won’t let you live this down if you continue to jack around here.”

You scratch your head. “I know, I know. I’m working on it. I’m going to the party tonight.”

“The one you didn’t want to go to?”

Raiden's anger boils in the pit of his stomach. “That was before. This is now! I’m going to win Emily’s better opinion again. At least get her to talk to me again.”

“It already looks like someone kicked your ass. Make sure you don’t get Raiden into any trouble.” Klaus tells you. The cold look in his eyes doesn’t match the lively tone in his voice or the faint smirk on his face. “Seriously. You have a pretty alright life. Don’t get yourself into any more trouble than she’s worth. There are plenty of-”

He stops himself. Both of you just remembered what the Fate had told you. Emily was supposedly your last chance at love. Your autopilot self was kind of a douche too. Or maybe not? Whatever the case, Raiden’s personality took over and snapped at Klaus “I’m not going to fuck this up, idiot! Why don’t you trust me?!

A few people shot a look over. You covered your face and cursed. Once some of the people looked away, you continued. “Listen. I’m just going to **** her boyfriend, get him hooked with some random broad and have her catch him red-handed. You know that there are rumors around that he’s a player. I bet you one of my cars that son of a bitch won’t be able to keep it in pants.”

Klaus knits his brows at you. “Sure.”

“Goddamnit. Haven’t we been through enough for you to have at least a little faith in me?” You spit.

“You do you. Just don’t kill me if it doesn’t work out. I’m cleaning the apartment after work.” Klaus steps backward to help someone.

You yawn, feeling the last remnants of your hangover subside. “Let’s get some fuckin’ fast food.”

Do you do anything else besides eating out?
