Chapter 18 by AnchorPillar AnchorPillar

What did you forget?

If it’s important you’ll remember.

Calculus was, after your shock of being suddenly magically good at it, boring. If anything it was more of a test of self-control, as whatever bit of your brain had that knowledge judged your teacher’s lecture constantly. By his second mispronunciation you were very thankful that you hadn’t gained the ability to shoot laser beams or something.

Even doing the homework was no help, the three questions should have taken four hours to do them in the way Mr. Tanshell wanted. They took you twenty minutes, including the extra credit. Having over half the period with nothing to do was agonizing, so when the bell rung you were off like a rocket to your next class; history.

Fortunately history didn’t set off the magical knowledge part of your brain, save for a ‘what Samurai wore’ diagram in the book you flipped over. Even than it was practically a dismissive hand wave when all it showed was a Samurai in armor, rather than anything else.

English was when you finally felt some semblance of normal again. Sure you were now an asian girl with magically granted knowledge over stereotypically asian things, but English was your favorite class. You would gladly take any of the ‘American classics’ right now just to feel normal again. If there was one bright spot to the day so far, you being genuinely happy to have to read Steinbeck in class was as close as you could get to it. Even than you still felt a little insane for it. The only thing worse was being sad to have to go to P.E.

The walk to the gym made you realize a new issue though; your old P.E. outfit certainly wouldn’t fit anymore, and you hadn’t brought any new clothes with you. Are they gonna provide you with the P.E. clothes or have you sit out? Wondering this you made your way to the girl’s locker room, which looked about the same as the boy’s locker room you remember. Except the coach looking keeping watch was the girl’s track coach, Mrs. Havensworth. A tall, severe, sharp woman, with graying hair. She famously was always on probation for having a string of profanities ready whenever someone annoyed her.

“What do you think you’re doing...ah...Imada?” She looked at her clip board for your new name. “You’re with the high risk ladies now.”

“High risk?” Mrs. Havensworth shook her head, as if holding back even the most mild of curses took the same amount of effort as running a marathon.

“room 2L” she pointed you towards a room slightly supported by floating crystals but very near the ground, it looked like it was made to be able to shift up and down as needed. It didn’t look as big as the gym itself but it was certainly bigger than your first period class. Starting your walk to it you’re joined by a red headed girl in shorts and T-shirt.

“Hey, I’m Heather, you must be the new new girl.” Her athletic build gave her a cute, almost elfin look despite the lack of pointy ears. In fact the only thing you noticed different about her at all is her slightly distended belly. She must have caught you staring, as she put a hand over it. “Yes, I’m pregnant. Any other questions?”

“So it’s not just changed?”

“Nah, though you new girls sure take up a large portion of the high risk class, most of us are just on our way though so to speak.”

“I still don’t understand why I’m getting put in high risk though.”

“Probably in your CAMP if you’re still changing. ‘Possible ends’ I think?”

Oh right...

What did Jess actually do to change what you’ll turn into?
