I wonder...

He'd, perhaps, been thinking about The Batman too much.

Alfred smiled ruefully at that thought.

What else was happening in his life that needed focusing on? He needed a date to the wedding. Alfred repressed a cringe. Perhaps there was some little thing he hadn't thought about in regards to the Batman.

It was time to think of other heroes. With Master Bruce's upcoming nuptials and then Honeymoon the other's would be called upon to pick up whatever amount of slack Master Bruce would let out of his control. So Superman and Wonder Woman would have to do a little more than they already did. The children, of course, would do their part but that would only keep the lid on Gotham. If Ra's Al Ghul was out there lurking the other two in the Trinity would have to be alert.

Both Superman and Wonder Woman had had prior dealing with Ra's and his league. From time to time. He could perhaps set a date and give Wonder Woman and Superman a more detailed briefing of Ra's and his habits.

Alfred stopped. Alfred spared a thought for a strange idea. A date?

With Wonder Woman?

Sitting down he let out a tired sigh. Alfred Pennyworth, he thought, you are a foolish old man. You on a date with Wonder Woman? You'd have to be back in your prime to even be....

Alfred bowed his head and let out a small hmm in thought. It was an even stranger idea. Perhaps he'd had Ra's Al Ghul on his mind too much.

Perhaps it was possible to be Wonder Woman's date but also in the prime of his life. He felt for the ring in his pocket. There was no harm in trying.

Picking up the Justice League communicator he put a call into Wonder Woman.

"Alfred?"

"Yes. uh, would you prefer Diana or Ms. Prince?"

Wonder Woman let out a small chuckle, "I think Diana is fine."

"Diana then." Alfred smiled. He pressed on, "Given the various fictions that are necessary for many of Master Bruce's friends to attend his wedding I was wondering if I might ask something of you?"

"Is this about me attending as a representative of the Justice League? Bruce is on record as being one of the League's biggest donors. I assume that fiction should hold."

"I imagine it will, rather I have a favor to ask you. You see... well, it seems, uh..."

"What is it Alfred?" Wonder Woman asked.

"You might not be aware but I recently required the use of a Lazarus pit." he waited for and heard the small gasp. Alfred looked himself over and found that he was apparently back in the prime of his life, full of vim and vinegar.

"Are you alright? What happened?"

"That is... after I tell Master Bruce." And think up a reason, Alfred thought.

"You managed to keep it a secret from Bruce?"

Alfred smiled, "I have my ways. He learned many things, I taught him many of them, but I did not teach him everything"

Diana snickered, "Of course."

"Yes, well, this is perhaps an awkward way to broach this but..." He cleared his throat, "Being back in the peak of youth could seem a bit strange to those outside of our circle, as it were. Some would dismiss it as putting on a bit of make up for being in the eye of the press. However the full head of hair and the other obvious physical tells would require a better reason. Such as..."

"Such as?" Diana prodded.

"Well, no one would bat an eye at Alfred Pennyworth sprucing himself up if he was Wonder Woman's date to Bruce Wayne's wedding. And standing next to you, in your splendor, there are few who would be focused on me." Alfred swallowed, "So, Ms. Prince, Diana; would you do me the honor of attending Bruce Wayne's wedding?"
