I want to be Helpful!

The small paws of a Pachirisu pattered on the stone floor. She stopped until she reached the fountain in the center of the grounds. She went on her knees, fighting(and failing) to keep tears from running down her face. ‘No… no, they’ll make it here! They have too!’ Kate thought to herself as she sniffled as tears leaked out from her eyes.

As she stayed there, she thought about the many times that her brother and the others came to her rescue or that they had her staying back away so they could fight any hostile Pokémon attacking them. It’s always been that since she had to leave her home to survive.

Since she had learned some moves however, she figured that she could be helping them out with situations like before, while she was aware of how large that group was, she can’t help but wonder if what’s been going on before will still be the same.

‘I feel like… I can’t do anything here. I want to help them out more. I don’t need to fight alongside them, but…’ tears run down her face before they fell, hitting the stone. ‘I want to be helpful… in any way possible!’

As she was trying to keep it together, she then felt something brush against her shoulder, making her yelp in shock as she looked to see who it was.

Kate sees the Medicham standing over her, looking down with worried eyes. “It’s me.” She spoke softly, trying to ease the Pachirisu.

“O-oh, it’s you… um..” Kate pauses, not able to remember her name.

“My name is Valorie.” She said to the girl before she sat down at the fountain. “And you must be Kate if my memory is correct?” She asked and Kate nodded in response. “Is something the matter?” Valorie asked, sounding concerned.

“I have heard… that the Pokemon from my group…” Kate paused, her lips trembling before she finally said, “That they’re planning on a possibility that… my brother and her friend will not make it here.” her paws squeeze her own fur.

“That’s definitely not something one wants to hear.” Valorie stated, placing her hand on the squirrel’s back. “You believe he can make it?”

“My brother’s strong! He won’t fall to anyone when it comes to making sure I’m safe!” She stated, unintentionally raising her voice.

“Calm yourself.” She stated, taking a quick Look to make sure no one grew concerned.

She nodded, “I just… I wish I can do more to help out.”

“Well you are just a child.” Valorie explained. “The infected are stronger than normally expected, they wouldn’t want you to get hurt because you’re very young. Families have lost their children to this crisis.”

“I’m not saying I have to fight too, but I want to help someone too!” She spoke in desperation. “Anyway I can help out, I would be fine.”

“I know how you feel.” Valorie spoke. “I was very scared when this mess started too. Though the head priest took care of us to the best of his ability. When he was lost, everyone was quickly falling in despair. That was then I knew I had to rise up, to protect them and everyone just like how he did it.” She then made a smile on her face and looked at her. “You know, I just might have an idea of how you could help me.”

“R-really?” Kate asked, looking hopeful.

“Yes, and it’s quite important to everyone that this is done.” Valorie added.

Kate was excited before she thought of something. “It’s… it’s nothing very dangerous right?”

Valorie kept her smile before extending her hand to her. “I assure you, it’s completely harmless.”

Kate was still nervous about going with her, but she remembered that her mother said that church members are honest in Arceus’s view, so she went and took her hand. The two of them started to walk off somewhere, unaware that Melanie was watching them before her head went down.
