Chapter 7
by ElizaLariana
Which option do I take?
I take the new version that is 100% effective
“Call me ambitious, but why go for something that is effective three-quarters of the time when there’s one that works one hundred percent of the time?” I comment with a hypothetical question. My hair getting in my face causes me to lift a hand to part it and tuck it behind my ear.
Ms. Stephens gives a nod to Angela, who’s standing behind me as I sit in my previous position on the table, my now shorter legs covered with an oversized pair of jeans hanging off the side of the table. The implant specialist presses a series of keystroke on a keyboard and then places the cold device to my neck again. Two beeps sound off instead of one. After a long pause, Angela walks around the table. She gives me the news, saying, “It worked perfectly. There’s almost no chance you’ll get pregnant now. They say if you ever do want to conceive, let them know and they can deactivate it. But once it's deactivated, they can't reactivate it.”
“And how about side-effects? Surely, Eliza has received some. Though, I’m not saying that I was expecting them to show up. I just know, on an intimate level, the statistics of every participant that wanted this experimental birth control option with 100% effectiveness. And unfortunately, It is not uncommon to see one to two, or even three, side-effects come up. But it’s not the end of the world when you get them. In one way or another, each and every participant manages to work through them, with difficulty of course,” Ms. Stephens speaks up, probably speaking from experience.
How many side-effects have I received? And what exactly do I receive?

Student X-Change Program
My Experience With A Revolutionary Scholarship
I'm a young man about to graduate high school in a few months. I'm trying to attend a university some six hours away from home as my first choice, though my parents and my counselor has advised me to spread my applications around, just in case my first-choice school doesn't accept me. I wasn't sure I'd be able to pay for it all, since my parents would only provide for the first semester of school. My counselor said that while I'm a student, I can get a job either on campus or near it. There are also some scholarships that can help with tuition and materials for school. I can breathe a sigh of relief for anything regarding financial aid, as I was offered a scholarship that covers everything from the first day up to graduation. There's just one catch: I would have to participate in the Student X-Change Program.
