I start making the rounds (as a woman)

I leave my apartment and lock the door behind me. The building has five floors and twenty-five tenant apartments. Most are two-bedroom, one-bath apartments, and all are quite spacious for the number of bedrooms. On floors two through five, apartments #1-3 are a standard size, with one large bedroom and one smaller one; #4 has two large bedrooms and an additional half-bath; and #5 is a three-bedroom, two-bath apartment with a master suite. The ground floor has five apartments of the standard size to make room for the building manager’s one-bedroom apartment. The daylight basement (which is actually a walkout basement along the back, thanks to the slope of the hill) has some common space, including a pretty nice exercise room. There’s one elevator, which is quite large, and a staircase right next to it.

I knock on the door of #101. Almost immediately a female voice answers, “Just a minute.”
