Chapter 9 by MidbossMan MidbossMan

What is my purpose as Kinzo's surprise guest?

I am here to take notes for Kinzo and report back

I told them all what they already expected: I was here taking notes with the intention of informing Kinzo how the family conference had gone.

Krauss and his wife both seemed especially indignant about that. "Impossible! Father has a host of servants, as well as me, his son and keeper of his estate, to report on this conference! Why would he need your report?!" the red-suited man complained, slamming his fist onto the table.

"What does this mean?! Is he using these notes to decide something?" the second child, Eva, questioned next. Her voice was nearly as furious. "Then you should be taking note of how useless my older brother has been throughout this family conference and how unhappy we are with his work! Be sure Kinzo gets that, okay?!"

"You'll let us see those notes before you go, right? He didn't tell you to keep the notes all a secret, did he? Though... I guess that would fit his personality," Rudolf laughed; he sounded genial, but his eyes were glaring right through me, willing the truth out of me even if I lied.

Ugh... This family conference is the worst. I hate it almost as much as the children who were dismissed from it do. Why did I decide to start here? The servants and the husbands and wives, normally quiet, suddenly busied themselves trying to tell everyone to calm down, drink tea, all the other sorts of things civilized human beings needed to do. I knew I was wasting too much time here... I'd found the most logical reason to be here, but not a good way to proceed forward.

I told them all that I was going to adjourn my time here until they cooled their heads. Further, I told them I'd discuss the matters so far with Kinzo. I left the room in a huff... hoping that someone would follow me. After all, they couldn't just let me report back to their father with news of their greedy, money-grubbing conference.

Ah... fantastic. They used the right tool for the job. Ushiromiya Rosa appeared, presumably to urge on the sort of sympathy I needed in order to reconsider my actions.

"Mister Player, wait! I'm not sure how much Father has told you, but... you must see from this intense family conference that we all have the interests of not just ourselves, but our children, at heart. I would hate to think of my innocent Maria- or the other children- suffering because of our arguments. Let's head to the kitchen... no one will bother us there and I can tell you the whole story. You'll see why this matters so much and, hopefully, then you can forgive us for our brash behavior..."

Ah, sweet Rosa... You've just set up the whole scenario for me. I told her that I would, with reservations, lend her my ear. There wasn't much time, but this sounded like a good way to make the most of it.

What happens next?
