I Don't Like it
Andrew and Laryssa were driving me crazy. When they were together they sat close to each other, whispered to each other…and when Andrew saw me looking at the two of them, that notorious smirk of his would make my heart skip a beat. I don’t know what it was about that smirk, but it oozed confidence, even cockiness, traits Andrew hadn’t exhibited until my girl started spending time with him.
My wife talked about my beta-male friend like a schoolgirl talking about her crush. I overheard Laryssa telling her friends about “his pouty bubblegum lips” and how she “needs both hands just to hold it”, although I’m not sure what she was referring to.
My wife was supposed to only pretend to be Andrew’s girlfriend, and it was only supposed to be for a few hours on one night. I didn’t foresee them hanging out beyond that night, and the fact that she was spending so much time with my tag-along friend began to make me jealous. The rumors and gossip about the two of them were having an effect on me, making me feel inadequate and insecure. Further, the way Andrew and Rob treated me – like a third wheel tagging along with the cool kids – began to make me envious. Andrew’s popularity accession was at the expense of my reputation, my love life, and my social life.
