Chapter 27 by MichaelChaseLit MichaelChaseLit

Brb!

I’m back!! No abandoned story here!! Woo!!

“Do you guys know the ‘Demon Core’ story?”

Despite Kenzie telling me to wait, I came out of my room to address the crowd. The girls had been in hushed whispers which came to a swift halt when they heard me.

Kate nodded, but looked confused at my question. The other girls looked at each other and shook their head.

I sighed. “Alright, I’ll be clear; I am not highly educated, so I don’t know much about it. From my understanding, it was this thing in the… I don’t know, 60s? The date isn’t important. Basically, some scientists had this nuclear sphere thing, and one scientist was fucking with it.”

I had the girls attention. I was thankful my shitty storytelling wasn’t messing with the impact I was aiming for.

“The scientist had a screwdriver holding open the Demon Core, right? But, then, his hand slipped. Don’t ask me how, but apparently this signed everyone in the room’s **** warrants. The amount of radiation blown out of the thing gave everybody super-cancer. Everyone in the room was dead men walking.”

Kate looked like she wanted to correct all of the scientific mistakes I was making, but kept silent. The rest of the girls still seemed confused.

“Now, like I said: I’m not a smart dude. I don’t know this story because I study the shit. I remember it because on specific fact that pisses me off. I heard that there was one scientist who was, like, late or at lunch or some shit. He comes back after the slip-up and they’re like, ‘hey bro, you’re dead now’. Now, that pisses me off so fucking much. I mean, what the hell, right?! Why didn’t they lock the door? Tell the guy to not come back? I mean, dick move, yeah?”

I looked at the women who gave me blank stares back. My public speaking clearly lacked nuance, as no one realized I was hoping for an answer from the audience.

“Uh… yeah, dick move.” I continued. “My point is; you guys purposefully set off your own Demon Core when you formed this little vigilante team. Then, like some assholes, you invited me inside the radioactive room. Asked me to bathe in it alongside you, awaiting an inevitable **** by super-asshole-cancer.”

Worry struck the faces of my crowd.

“I mentioned a couple times that I am not a smart man. And that holds especially true now.” I sighed again. This was my final moment without another threaded blade holding over my head.

Fuck it, what’s one more?

“Because I’m joining you. I’m walking in the room.”

Kenzie jumped up from the couch and hugged me tight.

“Yes! Yes, Michael! This is good! So, so good!” She gave me a big kiss on the cheek, causing Kate to blush from the couch. I may have also blushed, but I won’t tell you. I’m a grown-ass man, I will not admit to blushing at a kiss on the cheek. Fuck you.

Kenzie released the tight embrace and held me by the shoulders once more. “You will not regret this, Michael. We will do so much good!”

Kenzie once again sent me to my room with the promise of a meal being brought to me. She said that the rest of them had ‘much to discuss’ concerning my acceptance.

When I returned to my room I noticed a lack of ghostly figures. I wondered where Vanessa was.

(POV - KENZIE)

(Imagine all of the thought parts are in Russian!)

Despite how nonchalant I held myself up in front of Michael, I held this all with grave seriousness.

My girlfriend looked perturbed by today’s events. To be fair, I’d gone against her wishes. She had asked me to not invite Michael about seventy different ways since I’d pitched the idea. Despite how much she seemed to like him, her intelligence caused her to see things much more differently than I. She claimed we didn’t know him enough. He could be a Vocx spy. He could just be a dickhead. That’s why I loved her. Sweet, smart girl. Smarter than I by miles. She didn’t have social skills, however. That’s where I was leaps and bounds ahead.

I saw something in Michael that I had seen in the all the girls (besides being fuckable). I saw humanity. I had used my computer to see footage of the robbery events already (thanks Kate for the super-computer!). I could see something in his eyes, in his body movement, in his manners.

Michael was awkward like Kate, sure; but he was also someone who cared. He was a wet blanket, a pushover; but that wasn’t because he was a pussy, he just wanted to help everyone. He clearly didn’t have game; not important to the rest, but I’d noticed it when he blushed after a small kiss (hadn’t he seen me naked twice now?). All-in-all, he was a selfless being, whether he realized it or not.

Sara seemed happy. She liked Michael, that much was apparent. I just hoped she didn’t fuck him in our locker room (without an invite). I hadn’t been worried about her reaction. I’m pretty sure she would have told him about us anyway, given enough time.

Ava was glaring daggers at me, but that wasn’t new. The thin woman didn’t like me much, for whatever reason (because I was our leader? Because I was foreign? Because of my religion Because I had a better rack? Who knows!). To be fair, she didn’t seem to like anyone too much. I couldn’t be certain on her feelings for Michael. She had argued both for and against his joining. I think she was bipolar. The only person she seemed to hold no animosity towards was her doctor friend.

None of their feelings mattered. I mean, I don’t want to sound rude, but they didn’t. I was in charge. I made the hard choices. It wasn’t like I invited just anyone. Ava’s friend Hana wasn’t special, so she wasn’t going to know about us. The previous chick, Vanessa, was too creepy to be trustworthy.

We could discuss this shit further, but it was settled in stone: we had one new member, and it was time to figure out our next mission.

I’m alive!!! Hello, all! Isn’t it nice that this didn’t fall to the pits of abandonment that many stories have on this site? In fact, I’d like to shout out a couple great stories that haven’t been updated in a depressing amount of time!

A New Home

My Girlfriend’s is a Succubus?!

Soul Links

The Waiting Game

Undead Souls

Wet Dreams

I chose a few I liked, though on some bigger stories there are abandoned paths I enjoy as well. Also, not hating on anyone who abandoned those stories; I’m sure they have their valid reasons! This was more-so to shout-out some good stories.

Anyway… hey! I’m back! Patreon will be open next chapter or so. I didn’t write was much as if hoped on my break, so I didn’t get too far ahead. I don’t want to open a Patreon with nothing to gain lol.

On the topic of the story: when I do POV switches, I’ve been having lots of fun not saying WHO the POV is, and using context clues to reveal it. Is that cool? Or is it confusing? I can go back and edit to say who is who when doing them. I want to make everything as readable as possible. I’d ask for other fun questions, but I really don’t have anything to ask. My brain is kinda fried from jetlag and writing so much.

Thanks for returning with me, and here’s to many chapters to come!

Why’d you bother… just stay gone, author!
