His invention was a bit more.... odd. John had figured out a way to sew hypnotic technology into a pair of pantyhose 
He had eventually made a bunch of different pairs with varying styles, lengths and colours, ready to work with any outfit. The wearer will be hypnotized and under John's thrall as long as they have them on.
