How do you think, bub?

I mean, the food was actually pretty delicious. I didn't peg The Jinx for an honest-to-god chef. You also had to take into account I was currently in an undisclosed location, surrounded only by supervillains, with no one who was informed of my current going-on's.
So of course.

"It's great! I didn't figure you for such a good cook!" Looking back my mouth played me really dirty. In my defense, I was just trying to give a good compliment, but I may just be an idiot.

I could feel the change, her grasp of my body turned a bit ... violent. She squeezed me with malice and asked

"WHAT DO YOU MEAN?" I could see Mammoth look away. Traitor.

"I DIDN'T MEAN IT LIKE THAT!" You could hear the fear in my voice. I think I felt Jinx's hands almost tingling with some magic. "Of course you would be great in everything you did!" Yes, I was desperate and trying to avoid dying. Sue me. Also, it worked. Was Jinx a sucker?

She turned me around and looked at my face. "Great! That's what I wanted to hear!" She then planted a kiss on my cheek and sauntered off who knows where. I looked at Mammoth and I think we shared the same confused look.

"Is that normal?" He shrugged and kept eating.
"Seconds?" Of course. "Yes please"

After a couple more hours of work - and another, shorter break for some great coffee Mammoth had in some giant thermos, we were interrupted by a blaring alarm from one of gizmo's ... gizmos.

"Boss! Company!" He yelled from his station. Jinx immediately dropped the tools she was using and conjured up some of her pink magic thingamajig around her hands and got into a ready stance.

A figure was approaching, slowly from beyond the shadows at the end of the tunnel we were currently working in.

I had to give them points for a dramatic entrance.

"I was looking for you" The monotone drawl was familiar to me know, as Raven emerged from the shadows, almost as if she had been literally enveloped by them.

Her cloak was billowing behind her, almost like the tail of a stressed cat. Impressive taking into account there was no wind in the tunnel currently.

"Leave me alone Rae-Rae, I told you we are not speaking anymore" Jinx seemed acutely angry with Raven at the moment, even her magic was wavering in her hands. "And you can't arrest us here, this is all above-board, a contract for the state" That was ... comforting, I was here 100% convinced I was breaking the law.

That gave the dark titan some pause. She was completely focused in Jinx, she hadn't even seen me yet, I was sure she would recognize me otherwise. She would then realize I had lied to her... Well I didn't actually lie, but you know. I knew I was gonna loose some points with the Heroes.

"I... I'm sorry Jinx. I ..." ... What?

"You don't get to say that, you bitch!" Jinx clenched her fists, and her magic reacted in response.

"You... You took advantage of me! I thought we had a thing, you strung me along, and then you ... you just stopped calling!" Oh shit, this was some spicy gossip. Jinx looked like she was about to cry, she was showing her teeth, and her hair, even in her distinctive horns, was rising up like static.

Mammoth and gizmo were now flanking the Boss, like the loyal friends they were. I kept back some, ready to dive behind cover - like indicated in my copy of manual for the super-grunt: surviving to see the next pay-day ( It had been part of my on-boarding package)

"I shouldn't have done that Jinx, and I apologize. We were drunk, and I made a mistake" Both Jinx and Raven winced at that. "I know I hurt you, I shouldn't have been so... indirect about my feelings. I'm not completely comfortable with my sexuality, and I shouldn't have strung you along while I figured it out" I saw Jinx clench her teeth

"Then why make me chase you all the way to Gotham!?" The pink girl kept rebutting

"I didn't make you chase me, I ran away because I needed to think" Raven had lowered her tone. "Besides, you followed me. " She made a pause *"*I still have trouble controlling my emotions, and it dangerous for me to do so, because of my powers" She blinked once. "I needed some space and you weren't.. giving it to me". I was confused about the comment of her powers, but I figured it wasn't the best moment to ask.

Jinx seemed to realize something and deflated a bit. Raven continued speaking.

"I should have been more clear about that, and I'm sorry, but you have to understand it was for your safety"

Jinx seemed to be resigned now, and just bitter. But at least she calmed down. That seemed to end the discussion.

Lucky, because that's the moment when the tools that the Boss let clumsily on top of a create fell to the ground, and the noise turned Raven's attention to me.

She seemed confused to see another person in the tunnel, but she seemed to recognize me immediately.

"Well, what a surprise to see a ... civilian here" She walked towards me. What was about supers and their monologues? "I remember you" That's all she said, while she got real close to me, and took a sniff.

I wasn't that stinky! Besides, I'd been working all day, cut me a break!

"I'm surprised you didn't call me" She almost seemed .. disappointed. Then she smiled at me. It was scarier than I expected.

I felt more than I saw Jinx step right next to me. "Hey, leave him alone, he's min... with my team" Jinx pushed Raven back some. Was this a cat-fight or a lover's quarrel? The change in genre was confusing me.

Raven's eyes turned red for a second, but she seemed to compose herself with a breath.

"fine" She seemed to turn to leave, but looked at me for a moment "send me a message, I have something that should interest you" Then she surrounded herself in shadows and disappeared.

A.N:
Question about timing, I'm currently working full time and at uni, so my times are... limited. I can try to keep up with this sporadic "couple of days" between updates and get out this (weirdly consistent) 1k word chapters, or take some more time and flesh out some longer chapters. I think the latter will help out to improve the pacing of the stories. What do you think?
