Way Home

Homework!

The last period wouldn’t go fast enough for me. Every time my eyes made their way onto the clock face I swear the hands were flipping my the finger instead of pointing out the time. Who knew an hour could be so long? Even worst the teacher keep on droning on about young love and all I wanted to do was get back to just that. Finally the end of day bell goes off and another day is done.

I’m back at my locker quicker than ever before, hoping that Callum doesn’t forget our walk home. Much like the clock, everyone who passed me wasn’t Callum. No matter what way i looked in the hall there was no sign of Callum. Even as the crowd in the hall started thinning out there was no sign of Callum. Hanging her head dejectedly, closing her locker and starting the long walk home.

Going down the stairs making her way to the side entrance, almost about to push open the door when “Hey I thought you were going to wait for me?” Callum rushing up to Amy “ This should come as no surprise to you, but I lost my way back to my locker once again before remembering your map you made me!”

“Sorry! I thought you chose to walk home with someone else!”

“Someone else! Who?” Callum stops Amy “Who would I walk with, you’ve been the only one to say more than two words to me all day!” That surprised Amy for some reason. “Well I here now if your offer to walk home together is still open?”

“Sure it’ still open, if your going past Ashworth Square?” Amy tells him.

“No not past it!, I live there in unit 416!”

“You’re kidding right?” Amy says looking to Callum “I live in 414!”

“Wow so I meet a neighbour and a schoolmate all in one!” Slipping his hand into her’s as they leave the building together. Starting the walk north on Hurontario St to Kirwin Avenue then along it to Ashworth Square. As they both wait for the elevator their hands still clasped, it finally comes and they go up to the fourth floor.

Getting out Amy gets a bright idea as they come to her door “Callum do you have to go right home?” quickly adding “I mean we can finish our chemistry homework together!”

“Oh yeah I barely got any of it done in class!” Walking past her door “Just let me get rid of this backpack and I’ll come right back!” Going in his apartment and returning with his textbook and binder. For the next hour Amy and Callum sit side by side, writing the same answers in their own way. Amy sneaking peeks at Callum every chance she got

As they both dot the last sentence, the both turn their heads to the other, both a little too close, their lips coming into contact with the others, briefly. Both pull back like an static electric charge repelled them off each other. “I sorry Amy that wasn’t what I mean to do

“I don’t mind if it was!"
