Chapter 9 by Adova Adova

where should she go?

Home.

She really didn't quite know what to do, her entire focus was spent on not panicking. Her thoughts spiraling as she thinks back on the last twenty four hours. Oh god...that girl on the buss was being changed right in front of her wasn't she? What if Lily was infected too...she still has that stupid tune stuck in her head. A constant reminder of her impending doom? No...she wasn't going to give up. Surely the government would find some sort of cure or something. Ok...think...you have to walk home. Can't take the bus or Call Sandra for a lift...and when home need to use the radio to get new information right? Fuck...she doesn't own a radio. She's lucky her roommate Rachel usually went grocery shopping on Mondays. Oh shit! Rachel! Have to warn her too.

Lily brought up her phone, pushing away several messages from various friends. Some that she hadn't talked to in ages. Probably infected bimbos trying to get to her too. Sadly there was no message from Rachel...perhaps that was actually a good thing. A sign that she possibly hadn't been infected yet. She sent a quick message to Rachel. "Don't look at any music videos people send you! I'm serious! There is this weird virus going around!" Lily had plenty of time to devise a plan during her brisk walk home. It would take her almost 45 minutes as she spotted several clearly infected individuals on the way amongst the public. The girl walked straight past any anomalies, not even giving them a single glance. The less attention she gave them the better. Part of her feels like it's a miracle that she wasn't stopped and infected on the way when she finally makes it home to the apartment. She opens the door carefully, not knowing if she can trust Rachel yet. "Uhm....Rachel? Are you there roomie?" Her voice sounded unsure as she slowly walked down her hallway. No response from Rachel...maybe she was out still? Lily makes it to the door to Rachel's room as she doesn't even bother knocking. She grabs the handle and slowly opens it. Swallowing as she dreads the worst.

Rachel was sitting on her office chair, drawing something on her tablet, headphones on blasting...some generic hip-hop. Oh thank fuck it's not that incessant e-pop beat. Lily walked up and pulled off Rachel's headphones, her roommate clearly not having heard Lily approach at all. She turns around in the middle of her flow, looking a bit surprised and kind of annoyed. "H-hey! Lily what did I tell you abo-...Ooof!" She's interrupted mid sentence by her petite Asian roomie hugging her tightly. "Woah...what's up Lily? Something wrong?" Lily sighed in relief as she squeezed her roommate for all she was worth. "I thought I was going crazy...still kind of am to be honest. But you're all right at least! Unharmed. You're not one of them."

Lily spoke so fast Rachel could barely keep up. "Woah there tiger. Slow down. Explain everything from the beginning, please. I have no idea what you're talking about." After a very detailed summary of todays events Rachel Blinks. "Nah you're fucking with me...honestly." Lily shook her head. "Rachel! This is way too specific for me to try to prank you with. I'm deadly serious. I saw Kate and Sandra with my own eyes. You have to believe me!" There was a clear sense of desperation in Lily's voice that Rachel picked up on. Rachel grumbled. Still having a hard time coming to grasp with this reality. "Okay...fine...say I believe you. Now what?" Lily scratched her head. "I uhm...well...I'd assume laying low and waiting for proper information from the government would be the best. Right? Preferably we'd use a radio, something that doesn't have a screen and only plays sound. I've already heard pieces of the song and i'm fine. However watching the music video itself seems to be the triggering event."

Rachel crossed her arms. "Well, we don't have a radio. At least I just went shopping today. If we ration ourselves we should have food for the rest of the week at least...if it lasts any longer than that we're going to have to take risks. Alternatively we try to go out right now and get a hold of a radio and stock up on even more supplies. Kind of risky but if this thing really spreads like a virus getting a head start earlier might be less risky than trying to scavenge for scraps later on. What do you think?"

Do they bunker down or go prepping?
