Hitchhiking

Jade looked up and down the road evaluating her options. She could wait for the next bus, but, because of where the bus dropped her off and the fact the lecture would have already started, she would probably arrive as class ended. She could try and run for the university, but then she would just be sweaty and probably miss class anyway... Jade bounced from one foot to the other, indecisive as to what to do.

"Better start hitch-hiking. It's the only way you stand a chance of making it for even the second half of class."

Jade almost hit herself with annoyance. Of course! She thought, moving over to the side of the road. Not many cars passed down this street, but still a few a minute. All she had to do was convince one of them to give her a lift; just one. So, the Asian girl stood at the edge of the road and, just like in the movies, she put up a thumb in front of the road and waited for someone to stop for her.

After 10 minutes, her arm had begun to hurt and her patience was running low. A quick glance at her phone confirmed that the class would have already started without her, which left Jade bitterly disappointed. She had never been late to a university class and the fact that she now would be after not even remembering why she got off her bus didn't do much to cheer her up. A whistle and a roar of an engine snapped her out of her thoughts as a car pulled up beside her, but it wasn't just any car, it was a bright red convertible. Behind the driver's seat was a man in what looked like his forties; with wrinkles and wisps of grey hair amidst the black starting to poke through. In the back of the car was a slightly younger man, maybe in his thirties who was currently making out with a blonde girl who was definitely younger than he was.

"Hey babe." The older man said, lowering his sunglasses, looking Jade up and down appraisingly. "You need a lift?"

Jade felt relieved, but slightly apprehensive as she lowered her aching arm. "Y-yes!" She responded, "I need to get to my university and the next bus isn't for a while. It's nearby though! And I have some money!" Jade began to fumble to take off her backpack but the driver just put his hand up.

"Not necessary. I only have one stipulation for people who ride in this car..." He eyed her bemusedly, "You gotta look hot. What's the point in having a sweet ride like this if you drive around with poor company."

"H-hot?" Jade squeaked, feeling slightly self-conscious at the implications.

"Yeah." He said, smirking. "Convince me that you're good enough to ride my vehicle."

Unnoticed by the man, Jade's mannerisms changed slightly as the switch was flicked. Her posture became less stiff, her face relaxed and a smile even crept onto it. Suki made eye contact with the man as she slowly brought a hand up to her chest and pulled down the zipper on her hoodie. The man watched with interest as she removed the hoodie and tied it around her waist, before bunching the hair on the right side of her head up in her hand, using a hairband on her wrist to tie it up. Suki repeated this process for the other side, tying her hair up in some cute messy pigtails. She looked down at herself to see if any more modifications could be made, before grinning and rolling up the waistband of her skirt, bringing it to knee length. Satisfied with this, she looked up at the driver who was now grinning right back at her. Even the pair making out in the back had stopped to watch her little transformation from nerdy librarian to a more fun-loving-looking girl.

"How's this boss?" Suke said teasingly, striking a girly pose and playing with her hair. The driver leaned over and pushed open the passenger door.

"Hop on in babe," Suke smirked as she picked her backpack back up and quickly hopped into the passenger seat, pulling the door closed behind her as the car took off again. "I'm Carl by the way." The man said as he drove, "Back there is Eddy..." The younger guy nodded, "And that's Shirly." The girl fluttered her eyebrows at Suki. "And you are?"

"Suki. Suki Cox." She made sure to put extra emphasis on her surname as she continued to smile at Carl.

"Suki Cox huh?" He echoed back in an amused tone. "You sure you want me to drop you off at the university? You seem like a girl who likes to have fun, and we're headed to a friend of mine right now. He's throwing a birthday party. You're welcome to crash."
