Hit the road…

Mark was thrilled to hear that Tiffany was in for the camping trip, making it now a group of 9.

They all left early from campus on Saturday morning, keen to spend an entire afternoon at the campsite.

There were three cars.

Car number one was driven by Daniel, consisting of himself, Miranda and Ali.

Car number two was Tiffany’s car that was driven by Jess. She let the brunette drive while she studied in the backseat as Macca sat shotgun up front.

Car number three was driven by Jackson with Mark and Winter sitting in the back seat.

It was a slightly weird combination, the three of them had never really been together at the same time with nobody else around. Mark was more than happy to leave Jackson to drive as he chatted with Winter in the backseat.

“Sure you packed enough?” Mark said sarcastically to Winter, taking a look over his shoulder at the amount of luggage she had in the back of the car.

“You don’t get what it’s like to be a girl,” she replied, “We always pack more than less.”

“Even for a two day camping trip?” he asked her.

Winter nodded, “Especially for a camping trip, we’ll be outside, clothes could get wet, will be hot during the day, cold at night, plenty of things to prepare for.”

He smiled, “I’ll take your word for it.

The car continued to head in the direction of where they would be staying, Jackson not saying much for the entire trip.

“You like to camp Jackson?” Winter asked him from the back seat, feeling a little sorry for him.

“Not really,” he said, one hand on the steering wheel, “Neither mine or Mark’s family ever took us camping when we were younger.”

Mark chimed in, “At least you had holidays, I never left the west coast.”

Shrugging in the front seat, Jackson had never considered that. His parents were a little more well off than Mark’s and had worked out well for him, allowing the sophomore to go travel internationally, visiting other countries.

While they were in the car, Mark had a call from Macca. He accepted the call to hear his voice, and a bit of female laughing in the background.

“G’day buddy, where the fuck we going again?”

His voice through the phone call sounded as if he was already a little pissed.

“Middleton Lakes, are you guys close because we’re about five minutes away,” Mark asked him.

“Ahh no bloody idea.”

He could hear Jess’s voice in the background laugh and then a couple of swear words, telling him that he was the one in control of the directions.

“Once you get off Taylor Highway and onto Abbots Creek, you just have to make one more turn, a few miles down the road,” he tried explaining.

“Yeah, yeah, sounds about right, we’ll figure it out, cheers champ.”

Not having a chance to say anything else, Macca hung up the phone. Mark shook his head and laughed to Winter, “They’re definitely lost.”
