Chapter 4
What's next?
His girlfriend arrives with her exes
“Wait, she’s coming here?” Alyssa talked as she made his beer, her tone more curious than concerned. She hoped he hadn’t caught the disappointed whine she made when he put his phone back down. “I thought she was waiting for you at the dorms.”
“Me too,” he said while nodding. He took the offered beverage. “She must have decided to do like me and come down for a drink before our talk.”
Alyssa watched the undergrad slowly sip his ****, trying to bury her growing resentment. She didn’t want to keep mitigating John’s relationship woes but she also had a job to do. Alyssa glanced around the bar, thankful the evening was slow. She could dedicate more time to John if needed. She found a wet towel and began pretending to clean her service counter.
“Does she think you’re still held up in class?” she asked, making small talk while they waited for his girlfriend’s arrival and the chaos her appearance promised.
“I think so,” he mumbled, spoking into his glass before taking another large swallow. “I just told her I was going to be late; I never provided an excuse.”
So if she’s coming here, it isn’t to see him. She pondered for other possibilities. “Could she potentially be meeting someone here then?”
The question made him alert. “Oh God, she could be!” Alyssa couldn’t tell from his expression whether he was excited or panicked. Probably both. “I never took her for the type but fuck; it’s possible. She could actually be sneaking off to meet someone before seeing me. That’s so hot!”
Alyssa ignored the comment, not ready to engage. She instead kept an eye on the door, waiting for the girl’s inevitable arrival. A few dark silhouettes passed beyond the door without entering before it suddenly swung wide. A trio of university students had arrived — two guys and a young girl.
Not knowing who she was looking for, Alyssa nudged towards the threesome. “Is that her?” The girl in question was tall and seemed rough around the edges. She doubted this was John’s type.
It took John a single second to turn and glance at the new arrivals before he spun around, keeping his back towards them. His face had gone pale. “Yeah, that’s her.”
Alyssa refused to let her surprise be known. “Do you know the other two?” she asked, eyeing the men.
“Yes,” he answered solemnly. “I’m pretty sure those are her exes.”
The barkeep watched them as they entered the establishment, following them as they peered around the half-empty bar, looking for a seat. They spotted an empty booth towards the back and rushed towards it, claiming it as their own. Alyssa sighed. Well, my chances of an easy, drama-free night just dropped to zero.
“Wait, why am I even getting worried?” John suddenly asked himself as he jumped to his feet. “Exes or not, I have nothing to be ashamed of! I’ll march over there right now, pull her aside, and resolve this matter once and for all.”
“Sit down!” Alyssa hissed, grabbing him by his shoulders and forcing him back into his seat. “Have some tact! She doesn’t even know you’re here! If she’s still expecting you back at the dorms, I doubt she’ll stay here long.” With how eager he’d suddenly become, Alyssa wasn’t convinced he wouldn’t just try and have his girlfriend hook up with her exes right here in the middle of the bar. She put away her washcloth and grabbed a few menus. “Let me go talk to them first. See what they want.”
“You’d do that?” he asked, incredulous.
She gave him her best customer service smile. It was horribly fake. “It’s my job!”
She made to leave and he grabbed her before she left his reach. “Wait!” he asked as he pulled her back. “Even if she isn’t here to sleep behind my back, could you… encourage her?”
Alyssa blinked, unsure whether she’d heard him properly. Her nod was instinctual, yet resolved enough for him to let her go. She walked over to the new arrivals on autopilot, processing the request John had just made. How would she encourage a stranger to sleep with her exes? Did she even want to?
Not knowing how to handle the threesome, Alyssa tried to prepare for the unexpected. Even if the girl wasn’t here to cheat, God only knew what would make someone go out to a bar with their two exes instead of waiting at home for their partner. Guess I’m about to find out. “Hi there! Welcome to Ollie’s!” she greeted them as she approached, waving amicably. “My name’s Alyssa and I’ll be your server today. Can I get you anything?”
“Yes, actually,” the first man answered, turning away from his companions to look up at her. He was the oldest of the bunch, a large young man sporting a full beard and wide arms. Quite different from John. “Three tequila shots please!”
“Tonight’s a night worth celebrating!” said the other. He was leaner than the first but still broad in stature compared to the lone college student sitting at the bar. Either the girl had a type prior to John or her choice in suitors had been both severely limited and lacking in diversity.
Alyssa turned to John’s girlfriend and gave her a side look, inspecting her more closely. “You legal?’ she asked, knowing it wasn’t the first time a girl tried using her height to pass off as older. The girl nodded, a rippled passed through the bar, and strangely, the barkeep believed her.
Their order taken, Alyssa walked back to her station and began preparing the shots. She refused to make eye contact with John, his request still echoing in her head. She returned to the table shortly thereafter, handing the trio their drinks. They each eagerly took their respective glass and brought them together in a toast. Alyssa remained silent.
“To Lexy!” “Lexy!”
“To five years free!” the girl, Lexy, chimed alongside the others. They drank their tequila in unison, Lexy betraying some inexperience by reacting the most to the alcoholic burn.
The shot glasses clanged as they were brought back down on the table. Alyssa moved to grab them, wondering how to best get them to start talking about their personal lives. “Can I get you another?” she asked, hoping they’d refuse so she could focus on her other responsibilities.
“Sure!” they agreed, and Alyssa rushed to bring them another round.
“What are we celebrating?” she asked upon her return.
“Our freedom!” said the one she pegged as the eldest. “It’s been five years since we left that stinkhole and I plan on never looking back!”
As the trio downed their second shot, Alyssa tried to fill the gaps in his story. Her tenure as a server had **** her to meet countless individuals from many different walks of life, and she had shared hundreds of personal anecdotes. A narrative was already forming in her mind. She suspected they were from a small town, being the rare generational few who managed to find success after leaving their humble countryside homes. It was something often lamented by other students in similar circumstances. It would also explain why Lexy would be reconnecting with old exes.
“Let me guess, small town? I take it the three of you used to date?” Alyssa asked, hoping she wasn’t making too many assumptions and betraying the fact that she already knew part of their history. In hindsight, I probably should’ve asked if they were old friends instead.
“Right on the nose, actually!” the larger of the men answered, grinning. “We were a throuple! It was a bit unconventional but we made it work.”
“Until it didn’t....” chimed in the other, glancing at Lexy.
Their unconventional relationship never even phased her. Instead, Alyssa glanced at Lexi and caught the girl blushing. There’s a story here. She knew it was her job to ask, even if she didn’t want to.
“Let me guess,” she interjected, hoping to lighten the mood. “Lexy got greedy and wanted a third?”
The girl’s blush turned crimson. “Yeah… That’s exactly it.” she mumbled in a soft voice, unable to meet Alyssa’s eyes. “I couldn’t help it though! Sometimes a girl’s just gotta be greedy.”
Damn, this girl was already into being passed around. No wonder John’s so high-strung about this. He’s got her pegged down to a tee! As Alyssa thought to herself, she found herself slowly growing less guilty about following through with John’s request. She disliked watching girls get seduced, but this time she made an exception.
“Hey, there’s nothing shameful about wanting dick!” Alyssa spoke more resolutely than intended, but she didn’t care. Lexy wouldn’t reciprocate John’s fantasies if she felt like she’d been slutshamed for having already lived them. She had to be placated. “And sometimes, us girls just want to see many we can handle. Any girl would have a hard time refusing the chance to try taking multiple dicks at once!” She hoped Lexy would agree. “...Right?”
Lexy chuckled despite herself. “Absolutely! No way was I backing down!” Alyssa couldn’t help but agree, praising the girl for taking her shot. The barkeep knew she too would’ve had a difficult time walking away from the chance of sleeping with three guys if given the opportunity. It hadn’t yet, but she was always hopeful.
“Besides,” Lexy continued, eyeing her silent companions. “Two’s already hard enough to refuse.”
Alyssa felt the growing sexual tension rise as Lexy shamelessly stared at her exes. The men in question openly relished the attention, smirking as though being accosted by Lexy had been their intentions all along. This entire time, they’d been patient while she and Lexy chatted, but Alyssa could see their patience slowly running thin.
The barkeep hoped to pry a little more for John’s sake when the door to the bar burst open, revealing another university student. She was a mousey blonde with bespectacled eyes, looking lost like a fish out of water. She made her way to the counter without addressing anyone, passing by John and grabbing an empty chair a few seats down from him. She fidgeted nervously, making the seat spin.
“I think a minor just walked in,” Alyssa told her table. “So I better get going. Enjoy the rest of your celebrations.”
“Thanks but we were also actually just about to leave.” Lexy admitted, standing up herself. Her two companions silently followed suit. “This outing happened pretty spontaneously; I don’t have much time before I’m expected back home.”
She must be talking about John. “Enough time for a quickie?” the barkeep joked.
The coed just laughed. “Hopefully!”
Once the trio had paid, Alyssa rushed back to her place behind the bar, hoping the swiftness in her step wasn’t too obvious. “I’ll be with you in a minute,” she told the blonde as she passed her, Alyssa only stopping directly in front of John.
“Well?” he asked, looking like an excited puppy. She leaned over and whispered to him, hoping the new patron couldn’t overhear.
“There’s a hidden corner in the alley next to the bar, unused and invisible from the main road. I often find hookers and drunk college girls doing favors there; it’s actually a bit of a problem.” She glanced back at Lexy, who was practically glued to her exes as they left the establishment. She hated having to voice her next question, but knew she had to if she was to help him. “Is Lexy the sort of girl who’d make use of such a spot?”
The twinkle in John’s eyes told her everything she needed to know. He could hardly contain himself, nodding excitedly as he realized what was happening.
“In that case,”she continued, “I’m pretty sure that if you left now, you might be able to arrive in time to catch the start of the show.”
That set him off. “You’re right. Oh God, I can’t believe this is finally happening! My fantasies are coming true!” He jumped to his feet and downed the rest of his drink in a single motion. “Thank you Alyssa. Truly! You’ve helped me realize things about myself I would’ve never even considered possible. How can I repay you?”
She flashed him her best working smile. “15.95 for the two drinks, and a tip for the help!”
He slammed a twenty on the counter and returned her grin. He nearly tripped over a barstool as he rushed out of the establishment, darting left before doubling back as he struggled to find the neighboring alley. Alyssa watched him vanish, proud of how much she’d been able to help him. She might not enjoy the social aspects of her job, but it certainly had its rewarding moments.
“He definitely seemed chiper!” the new girl said, having watched John’s exaggerated exit. She turned to Alyssa. “I’ll have the same thing he did.”
The barkeep grabbed an empty glass, ready to begin anew.
