Chapter 78 by Walrusdick Walrusdick

Domo arigato Mr. Roboto

Here’s Where the Story Ends Part1

*This chapter will be changing points of view. I will mark each POV change.

*Matt POV

Kamaria, Bianca, and I slowly moved into the chamber. We could hear something large moving, the sound of multiple legs moving and something dragging on the ground.

I grabbed some flares from my belt and struck them, tossing them hard into what I thought was the center of the chamber.

Three things happened. First, I saw the outline of what I can only assume was the hell wyrm; its enormous body and armor plating, coiled, it looked like a giant centipede. Its many legs furthered this, but it had a head more like a giant lizard. It started to move, turning its head and many eyes towards our group.

Second, I saw two groups coming out of the other tunnels that led to this room. First was Murphy, Estelle, and Amalthea, who was carrying a hurt Tessa. The other group looked to be Jen, Ashley, and Nancy, along with about two dozen of our forces coming out of another tunnel.

Third, I saw the glint of steel closest to Murphy's team. It belonged to a 30-foot-tall steel robot. My enhanced eyesight recognized the pilot. It was Igor. The robot seemed to be equipped with close combat and ranged weapons. Looking something like a cross between Ripley's power lifter from Aliens and a 40k dreadnought. He seemed to be focused on Murphy's team.

I had to focus on my own fight, as it was likely to be the most difficult, but hopefully, I could help the others once the wyrm was taken out.

"Kamaria, Bianca, take its belly; I will get its head!" I shouted. They took off for the wyrm. I ran straight for its head, its eyes zeroed in on me.

I saw Kamaria and Bianca get held up by its centipedal legs, sharp like knives. The wyrm had excellent control of them, possibly having extra sensory organs to tell it where they were. I couldn't observe for long as I was almost bitten in half by the head. Rolling to my left, I dodged the attack. I was able to push off of a convenient rock and put as much power as I could into my kick while its head was down. Causing its jaw to snap shut, cracking a few forearm-length teeth off, falling to the floor.

Understandably angry at this attack, the Wyrm threw its head to the side, catching me in the shoulder and launching me about 20 ft. I had just enough time to recover before it was on top of me again. Its jaws open while it came down to swallow me whole. I managed to grab its prominent front teeth and stopped the jaw from snapping shut. I wasn't going to be able to hold this long, though, so I improvised, putting my foot in its mouth and violently kicking out while letting go of the lower jaw, trying to snap it backwards. I wasn't strong enough to break its jaw, but it allowed me to get out of the mouth and give it a solid punch, rupturing one of its eyes.

The basketball-sized organ ruptured, causing a nasty green liquid to burst out. As gross as it was, it was nothing compared to the smell. Holding back a wretch I watched for the first time, the Wyrm turned its anger towards the Celestials.

I looked, seeing that Bianca had managed a decent-sized cut in the underside of the creature, enough that it thought to abandon me to stop her. Kamaria had her back, using her shield and sword to hold back the great maw coming for her. I took this moment to grab my own weapons, the teeth that I had snapped off earlier, tucking them into my belt. I jumped on the back of the wyrm, grabbing one of the plates of armor. Squatting, I grabbed under the plate and lifted with my legs as hard as I could. Yelling, I ripped the plate off its back. The gooey pink skin was exposed. I grabbed the teeth and started stabbing like Roberto from Futurama; a dozen six-inch holes gushed green goo from the wounds.

Another roar, and I felt a battering ram slam into my side, crushing my ribs. This time, I flew through the air at high velocity towards the cave wall and crashed into it. Only my own rock-like skin stopped me from splattering like a tomato. Falling to the ground, I groaned. I immediately started concentrating on healing myself.

The Wyrm had gone back to attacking the celestials, probably thinking I was no longer a threat.

"Master, are you alright?!" Yelled Kamaria

"I am going to need a few minutes to heal. That broke some bones." I yelled back.

"We will hold the Wyrm," yelled Bianca, dodging another sword-like limb while slashing at the beast's underbelly.

I focused on healing but couldn't help looking to see how the others were faring...

*Murphy POV

We just left the tunnel hearing Igor tell us his plan to destroy us and unveiled a large robotic battle suit with him sitting in the pilot seat. We also saw Matt and his group battling some type of giant serpentine monster, as well as Jen and a group of our forces coming out of another tunnel.

We had two objectives. We needed to get Tessa to Matt for healing, and we needed to get Tessa to the power source to shut it down. Unfortunately, we had a big metal ding dong in our way, and it didn't look like he was going down anytime soon.

I decided to take control of the situation. "Amalthea, can you get Tessa to Matt?" I asked the celestial already carrying her.

"Yes, Murphy, I believe I can get there without too much difficulty." She said

"Do it, Estelle, and I will try and keep this robotic freak off balance until you get back." I said, shouldering the .308 with the tungsten rounds.

Amalthea used a combination of her speed, wings, and agility to get across the chamber to Matt.

I was able to find a good location for cover while Estelle ran towards the towering monstrosity. At the same time, Igor had started the massive machine and was moving towards the celestial and my location.

I aimed for the "vital" areas that I could see. Hydronic lines, power cables, and of course Igor himself. The contraption raised an arm, the gun rotating to the back of the hand, aiming a cannon right at me. I hurriedly rolled to the rock to my left, just in time to hear an impact where I had just been kneeling.

Estelle took that time to slash at the ankle joint of the robot, causing some sparks to fly and seeming to limit its movement somewhat. The forearm of the robot opened, and a large blade almost as tall as Estelle rotated out, locking in place. Igor cackled while bringing the blade across in a sweeping motion. Estelle was able to leap over the 40 ft arc that the blade took.

I had lined up another shot, piercing a hydraulic line in the arm ares. Fluid was shooting out of the hole every time that arm moved. I took a shot at Igor himself, but an energy shield deflected it. I should have known he wouldn't leave himself open like that. It did, however, get his attention; turning towards me this time, he decided good old-fashioned squishing was on the menu. I felt the thump scraaaathump thump scraaathump coming at me fast. I think that ankle strick from Estelle is the only thing that slowed Igor down before stomping the rock formation I was behind not but a second ago to dust. I ran through the bots' legs and headed straight for Amalthea, who, after dropping off Tessa, was charging back into battle....

*Jen POV

Upon entering the large chamber, Nancy, Ashley, and our squad saw two scenes unfolding. Matt, my love, was engaged in combat with a serpent-like insect creature, and on the other side, Murphy's team battled some sci-fi robot thing. Lastly, I saw a station that led to a bunch of pipes, electrical lines, and computers. I took a wild guess that this was likely where the generator was.

I thought for a minute, and I thought we would likely get in the way of the two teams if we interfered. Instead, we were going to claim the generator area so that Tessa and Murphy could deactivate it as soon as they were done.

I explained my plan, moving in formation down the middle. Try to steer clear of conflict, but help when we can, and we will make our way towards the generator and hope that there isn't much resistance along the way.

As we started moving, the two battles heated up. None of our weapons were able to pierce the hide of the creature Matt was fighting, so we focused on Igor's robot. Some lucky shots were able to land some hydraulic hits, possibly helping Murphy and the celestials.

We came to a turn in the cavern, and behind it was a very large laboratory, along with what looked like a series of large containment tubes. In them were horrible alagams of humanoid beings; everyone we came across was deceased. They had horns growing out of their heads in random and numerous patterns. Their skin sickly hues of green and red. Musculature was very abnormal, some with large arms or legs, torsos too long or short. It was a very sad sideshow. We finally came to the end of the tubes only to realize the last two were not only alive but were Mckenzie and Madison. They were changed, taller, skin blue for Madison and purple for Mckenzie, clawed hands, and feet along with tails, large batlike wings protruded from their backs. They were **** but hooked to respirators and monitors.

I am not a tech person, but it seemed like their containers were hooked to the machine that I thought was the generator we were looking for. I didn't dare take them out; I had no clue what type of shape or piece of mind they were in! All I could do was try and secure the area and hope that Matt and the others were able to be victorious in their fights...
