Helen takes the lead.

Adam felt a strange fluttering feeling in his chest as he turned to see the man who had interrupted his and Helen's whispered conversation. He was an undeniably handsome man in his late forties or early fifties. He had dark hair with a few flecks of grey and a chiselled jaw. He was dressed smartly and oozed charm. Adam stared at the man, unable to speak. He suddenly felt very bashful and overwhelmed by feelings he hoped desperately weren't his own.

"Sorry, we didn't see you there," Helen finally said, breaking the awkward silence. "What can I get you?"

"I'll have a large glass of Merlot please, Zoe," the man said. He barely glanced at Helen though, his eyes were very much focused on Adam in Susannah's body. Adam shifted uneasily on the spot, trying desperately not to make eye contact with the gentleman. He felt paralysed as Helen poured the glass of wine and took payment for it.

"This is Susannah by the way," Helen said as she closed the till. "Susannah, I don't think you've met Simon before."

"So you're the Susannah I hear everyone talking about," Simon said suavely. "I'm pleased to finally meet you." He gave a soft smile that made Adam's knees go weak.

"Nice to meet you," Adam replied, attempting to compose himself. He was feeling a cocktail of feelings that were making it difficult to act naturally, whatever that meant for a man in his twenties possessing the body of a woman almost twice his age. Adam continued to stand there awkwardly saying nothing as Helen moved on to serve another customer.

"So you own the pub with Paul then?" Simon asked, finally breaking the silence.

"Oh, yeah that's right," Adam replied. He glanced briefly up at Simon but quickly looked away. He could feel his whole body flushing whenever he glimpsed at the frustratingly handsome man. It reminded him of how he felt around pretty girls once he realised he was attracted to them.

"That must be a challenge," Simon laughed. "I've known Paul for a fair few years and he's not an easy man to get along with."

"It can be tricky," Adam agreed, twiddling his thumbs.

The conversation continued in this stilted fashion for what felt like eternity for Adam, until mercifully Helen dragged him away into a storeroom.

"Are you kidding me?" Helen chuckled, as she closed the door behind her. "I thought you were supposed to be helping me work behind the bar, but instead you're standing there like a lemon whilst a gorgeous bloke tries to chat you up!"

"Sorry," Adam said weakly. He could feel himself glowing red and struggled to look Helen in the eye.

"If you're going to be in my mum's body, you're going to have to at least try to act like her."

"I know," Adam sighed, throwing his hands up in the air. "It's just, I'm getting all these strange feelings and I don't know how to deal with them. It's like going through puberty again!"

"Well you'll just have to get over them," Helen said. "Simon is exactly the kind of guy my mum would go for and you're messing it up!"

"What?!" Adam spluttered. "You want me to flirt with Simon?"

"It's what my mum would do! Come on Adam, this is the chance of a lifetime! We're able to step into someone else's shoes literally, and live their life."

A light bulb lit up in Adam's mind. "This is a dream come true for you, isn't it?"

"What do you mean?" Helen asked with a raised eyebrow.

"This is like the ultimate acting experience. You can be anyone you want, whenever you want. I can see why you're so into this now."

Helen grinned from ear to ear. "You're finally getting it," she beamed. "Are you ready to go back out there as Susannah then?"

"I guess so," Adam said none too confidently.

"Why don't we swap over then?" Helen suggested eagerly. "You can be Zoe and focus on pulling pints and I can be my mum and focus on pulling Simon."
