Hear her out

"Oh yes, Vanessa I can do exactly that," you smile cruelly at her, starting to dial the phone.

"Don't! It was a prank! I'm not stealing anything. It's a prank to get into my sorority! I'm Jim Gavin's granddaughter. Call him! He'll tell you who I am. It's just a prank!"

"If you're his granddaughter, tell me about your family."

"What?"

"Your family. Sisters, brothers, aunts, uncles, cousins. People like that. Tell me about them."

"Why?"

"Never mind," you say and pick up the phone again.

"Wait! I've got a little sister, Robin. My parents are Claire and Steven."

"That's it? No aunts or uncles?"

"I have an Aunt Eileen, she's my Mom's sister. I have a cousin Meghan. She works here too. She could tell you who I am! Call her or call my grandfather. It was just a prank. Let me go! Fucking let me go!" she shrieks at you.

You look at her coldly and pick up the phone and punch in numbers. She screams at you to hang up, struggling with her bonds, squirming and wriggling. Jim Gavin picks up on third ring.

"John Chandler here Jim. Sorry to disturb you."

"That's alright. What's that godforsaken noise in the background?"

"That's what I'm calling about. I caught a young woman in your office tonight, apparently robbing it. She claims she's not a thief, and it was just a sorority prank. She also says she's your granddaughter Vanessa."

"Oh for God's sake," he says with exasperation. "Why is she making all that racket?"

"She thinks I'm calling the police. And I have her tied up in my office."

His laugh is rich and honest. "Oh that's priceless. Just priceless. Tell her to shut up and put me on the speaker."

You press the speaker button and walk over to the screaming girl, grabbing her jaw and holding it tight. "Shut up. Your grandfather is on the phone, and wants to talk to you."

She looks at you wild eyed, and calms slightly. "Grampa?"

"Yes child. You seem to have got yourself in some difficulty."

"It was just a prank Grampa. Part of getting in my sorority. I didn't do anything bad, and this asshole has me handcuffed and tied up. I think he's a pervert Grampa. Please tell him to let me go. I didn't steal anything really."

"It's a very stupid thing to have done, child. You've always done stupid things and expected to get away with them."

"It wasn't really bad Grampa, it was just a prank," her voice takes on a wheedling tone, the sound of a spoiled little girl trying to get her way.

"You're eighteen now, Vanessa. An adult. You have to learn that when adults do stupid things there can be serious consequences."

"I know Grampa but...."

"Don't interrupt me, child. Mr. Chandler has my complete confidence. Whatever he does to you as punishment has my blessing."

"Grampa, no!"

"Be quiet Vanessa. John I have every faith in you to deal with this appropriately. Sorry you have to deal with another of the women in my family, but there it is. Goodnight John."

As Vanessa screams, there is the sound of the connection being broken.
