Chapter 19 by Berk92 Berk92

What is the wish?

Heal Meilyn's injuries.

Holding the magic pendant within my borrowed hand, I whisper:

"I wish to completely heal Meilyn's recent injuries."

The quartz pendant reacts to my request by shining with its purple light. And the next moment I hear a gasp behind me.

When I turn to see the results, Meilyn is breathing very quick while grabbing her face. I can clearly see how the inflamation is receeding at an astonishing pace. After ten seconds, her right eye is fully visible. And after another ten seconds, all the bruises have vanished and her cute face looks as good as new. Save for the blood that already came out but the pendant didn't clean up.

"Huh...?" Meilyn mutters while caressing her cheek. "W-Wha... It... doesn't hurt?"

She seems to be absolutely confused, and I don't blame her for that.

After confirming that she is alright, I take out my phone and take a look at the Pendant's App.

Actual Mana Reserves: 9%

I sigh at the sight of it. Healing Meilyn burned 10% of the pendant's 'battery', but I can't say I regret it.
In any case, there's another thing I need to ask for.

"Uhmm... I... let's see... I wish to... fix the things broken by Meilyn's boyfriend. You don't need to put them back in their place, only to fix them. And if you can't fix everything, then prioritize the most valuable stuff."

I hold my breath while staring at the pendant, hoping that my stuttering voice didn't affect the wish in a negative way.
However, once again the pendant doesn't betray my expectations, and shortly after, it shows me the reassuring glow of yet another wish granted.

I suddenly hear a concerto of crackling noises all around me, like someone was continuously sweeping a bunch of crystal shards with a broom.

"W-What is... this?" Meilyn asks with both alarm and surprise.

It looks like the whole livingroom is alive. The overturned table with a broken leg is visibly straightening by itself, with its little fisures gluing back together. The little pieces of broken glass and ceramic scattered over the floor are slowly crawling back to the plates and screens they originally came from, merging together without a single visible crack. And both the documents and teared papers keep magically floating one by one back to the books and booklets they were torn from.

It looks like a scene from an old magic tale, and I can't help but wonder at it with a bright smile.
But when I take another look at the App, I sigh even deeper than before.

Actual Mana Reserves: 1%

"Back to square one, I guess." I mutter in resignation. It looks like I'll be trapped inside this black dude's body for a few more days.

After everything has quieted down, Meilyn slowly stands up on her bare feet and takes two steps forward. Then, she grabs her laptop with trembling hands and stares at it in awe, both at the intact screen and at her own reflection from the screen.
Even though the device was on the floor, it looks as good as new.

"...H-How...?" The girl asks in a breathless voice. She shakes her head in disbelief and then looks at me with those big beautiful eyes still dripping with tears. "D-Devon? What did you...?"

"I told you not to ask..." I say awkwardly while scratching the back of my head.

"...But-"

"Are you okay?" I interrupt her questioning. Gently but firmly. "Like... does it hurt anywhere?"

She stares at me for a long moment without blinking. But then she quickly shakes her head while hiding her hands behind her back. Damn, she is way too cute for her own good.

"I see... Well! Then let me help you put this place back together, alright?" I say while clapping my hands together with **** enthusiasm.

Then I immediately turn my back to Meilyn and pick up the huge plasma TV back from the floor.

"Ufff, this thing is heavier than it looks. Uhm, Miss Banks, do you mind giving me a hand?"

"Ah! Yes!" She exclaims, snapping out of it. Then she practically jumps forward and helps me put the expensive device back in place.

During the next few minutes, we work together to tidy up the livingroom and doorway until all the traces from the previous disaster are almost completely gone. It's an awkward time for me, during which I have no idea of what to say, so I say nothing instead, choosing to keep my head down and concentrate solely on my hands.
It's not the case for Meilyn though, since she keeps staring intensely at me the whole time. I can clearly feel her eyes permanently glued to my nape, a feeling so pronounced it's making me sweat.

After we've finished with most of the work and I'm helping Meilyn put the plates back inside the now repaired vitrine, something unexpected happens: the girl's hand slips and one of the plates falls down to the floor, breaking once again.

For a long moment, I keep staring at the broken pieces with the face of someone witnessing a theft in real time.

"Miss... Banks?" I carefully ask after the pause.

"...I'm sorry." She apologizes head down with a weak voice while grabbing her visibly trembling hand.

"Uh..."

"But please, don't call me 'Miss Banks', it's weird, so call me Mei, okay?" She says way too quick. Both the speed and low volume plus the fact that her lower lips are shaking makes her words hard to understand.

I'm starting to worry for some reason.

"...Right. Uh... Mei? Are you... alright?"

All of a sudden, she covers her face and sobs.

"......(sob)....No..."

Before I know, my cute neighbor is crying right next to me, which sets up all the alarms in my head. What do I do?! How do I comfort a girl in such a moment without looking like a weirdo?! I've never been in this kind of situation before!
I swallow saliva, feeling as lost as an octopus in a garage, but at the end I decide for the safest approach I can think of: which is to extend my hand and carefully pat her back.

"C-Come on, don't cry." I say in a gentle tone. "That animal is not going to come back, I... I promise."

"I thought... (sob)... I thought my life was over."

"Don't say that..."

"He... (sob)... hit me so hard, and it hurt(sob), so so much... and I(sob) I... (sob) d-didn't know what to dooo...!"

"You're okay now. What happened today is never going to happen again."

"I was so dizzy and scared a-and... and he(sob), he kept breaking all my things! I(sob) asked him to stop, yelled him to stop! But(sob) he didn't stop..."

She keeps crying like that for a long while, with me awkwardly patting her back, trying to comfort her in the clumsiest way possible.
Though at some point, she straightens her back and takes a long unstable breath. Her chest is still shaking, but it looks like she managed to compose herself to some degree.

"Heheh..." She suddenly chuckles while wiping a tear with the back of her hand. "...you're not very good at this, aren't you?" She asks while glancing at me.

"W-What do you...?" I stutter.

"Interacting wirth girls, I mean." She says in a teasing tone. "That's strange. You didn't seem like the kind of person who'd have issues with that."

I stare at her like a dummie, not knowing what to say.
However, instead of keep on teasing me, Meilyn lowers her head. Even though she is still smiling, her eyes look sad.

"But that's not the only thing. I... I completely misjudged you..." She says in a weak voice.

My beautiful neighbor suddenly takes a step forward and grabs my right hand between hers. Meilyn's hands are sweaty, but they feel so gentle and delicate... Before I know, I've got goosebumps all over my borrowed body.

"Devon, I... I have to apologize to you."

"Y-You don't need to-"

"No, please! Let me say it, I need to say it!" She insists in a **** voice. "I didn't trust you when you told me you were Mark's cousin. And, uh... I was... even planning on launching an investigation to learn about Mark's whereabouts and all that stuff, maybe even getting the police involved."

I feel a knot in my stomach after hearing Meilyn's confession, but I don't interrupt her.

"But then, before I even started, my boy- I mean... ex-boyfriend wanted to come for the night and, well. Some stuff happened, we had an argument and then he exploded, and then... and then..."

Meilyn purses her lips in order to control her trembling jaw. She is clearly affected by the recent events and is struggling to let the words out.
But then, she surprises me once again with a sudden chuckle. She laughs while shaking her head, releasing the tension as best as she can. Or maybe this is just her way of being brave.

"...But then you appeared, out of nowhere..." She says, staring at me with a strange spark on her big round eyes. "...and completely wrecked that psychopath."

She sniffs and wipes another tear from her cheeks.

"I couldn't believe my eyes." She says with a nervous chuckle. "Seeing that big bastard crying like a bitch over the floor almost made me forget the pain for a moment."

Meilyn suddenly averts her gaze and releases my hand.

"And, as if that wasn't enough, you did that... trick..." She glances at my confused eyes for an instant, but she immediately goes back to looking down and blurts out a stream of words."I'm sorry! I'm just... I don't know if what you did was some kind of magic or whatever, and I'm aware you told me not to ask, and I won't! B-But I'm just-... I only want to...!"

She takes a few moments to compose herself, and I realize she's blushing intensely.

"...I'm only trying to let you know of the importance of what you did. Of how much it means to me." Her voice sounds choked but full of emotion. "...Thank you, Devon. Really, thank you."

Right after saying that and without a warning, Meilyn steps forward and wraps her thin arms around my neck in a graceful hug.

"W-Wha-?!" I exclaim, caught totally by surprise. She is so petite... and despite the fact she's been through a lot today, her dark hair still feels soft against my cheek. I can clearly smell her fragrance through Devon's wide nostrils and feel her whole frame pressing against my host's body.
I don't know how to react. There's nothing in the meager list of my learned social skills that prepared me for the very unlikely case that a girl of this caliber decided to press her sexy body against mine. So I just freeze like the inexperienced idiot I am.

...However, there is one part of this body I'm 'controlling' that does react to the unexpected feminine contact.
As if my own inaction wasn't enough to make a fool of myself, now I can clearly feel Devon's engorged member pulsating forward, distending and pressing against the fabric of my trunks.
In mere moments, a massive sideways tent has formed over my crotch.
I desperately wrack my brains in order to find a way to prevent a misunderstanding but, before I can think of anything...

"...Huh?" Meilyn backs off a bit and looks down at the exact point I don't want her to look.

She keeps staring at 'it' for an awfully long moment, long enough for me to feel mortified. By now I'm totally used to women finding me gross and even repulsive, and I unconsciously fear Meilyn's inevitable reaction.

However, when she finally looks up to me, I'm surprised to see none of the expected rejection. Instead, she seems... flustered. And her pretty face has become red as a tomato.

"S-S-Sorry, I... I got a little carried away." She lets out a nervous laugh. "I should've warned you before... uh..."

Meilyn looks at my crotch once again. Then glances at the door, then back at the oversized bulge deforming my tracksuit pants. If I didn't know any better, I'd think she looks kinda... fascinated by it?

"Devon, uhm..." Meilyn looks at me while distractingly preening her hair. "...Do you want me to... take care of it for you?"

I stare at her like an idiot, forgetting to breathe or even blink.

"...what?"

"O-Only if you want me to, of course!" She adds very quick. Her blush is now extending to her ears.

Is she implying what I think she is?

What do I answer?
